Voice Recognition on 720 - Discussion

Recorded voice Enable recorded voice ICONS

pin reset did not work. still grey. I am OK (doesn't work well)
with VR speaking to my TOM where I want to go.

For some reason my VR is not working well. It never gets the City right.
Comes up with the wrong City. It works about 50% of the time with
street and number.

Recorded voice Enable recorded voice ICONS UPDATE

I did a Factory Reset and now I have the voice recording ICONs
available.

My only disappointment so far is with the VR. So far it doesn't
recoginize the Cities. It's about about a 40% success rate on the street
and number.

Yet, I was talking with someone else who said theirs works perfectly
stating the same Cities. I thought it might have been just my voice
characteristic so I let someone else speak the City and still no go.

Info: My App. 7.221 and maps North _America2GB v710.1584 did
not have the ASR folder or the speech files in the map folder.
I downloaded the speech files here. I actually just copy the speech file
for my State into the map folder. I updated App to 8.03 which had ASR folder
After doing this the 2 ICONs appeared and I could use them.
However they are not reliable voice entries. Anyway of improving
the repsonse?

Ken, it appears u have a new unit. You should update your firmware to 8.3 and download the latest maps free of charge: North America 8.15. The new may and firmware may solve your problem

update

From what I understand if I upgrade to 8.3 then I loose FM transmitter which
I find far more important to me than the VR.

Doing a factory reset did restore the voice record icon. Now this is
the strange part. From a backup, on a external SD card with 7.221 app on it.
I booted off it and the voice record was there. My spoken address icon
was there too but it didn't work at that time of the backup.
I removed the external SD card and booted back off the internal card
which has 8.010 app on it. But this time the spoke address icon was greyed
out again like my prior problem before I did a factory reset which brought
the spoken icons back. So it looks like I will have to do another Factory
reset to get spoken address ICONs back. This is a pain cause I have to
reconfig everything again..

You can't win.. if you upgrade to the latest firmware you loose features.

I was hoping I could dance between external SD cards based on the features
I needed, Tomplayer spoke address... I could never get the spoken address feature to get the Cities right. 20% right on street and number.

Kens TT720 issue

Ken, I Just went through the same Issue with my new TT720.. upgraded to the 8.15 maps, Downloaded the support_ASR file and The 8.15 speech files Pedro posted elsewhere on this sight and I was in business.. Speech recognition works, FM works.. In fact, the only issue (?) I'm experiencing is the infamous Stutter and Only being able to see 57 songs out of 100 that are currently on my memory card.. Other than that, works like a champ..!!

I have application v8.3xx and map version NA8.15xx. I unzipped for necessary states on my North_America_2GB folder and also created .dat file in both folders (i.e. in ASR & North_America_2GB) just to make sure, but I don?t see voice recognition buttons when I tap Navigate to..

Any help?

Replied to your other post. Also, have you tried 'restore to factory defaults'? Will lose your custom settings but may cause the functionality to 'kick in'.

The first time I created the .dat file I hadn't unchecked the setting to hide known extensions under folder options in control panel so the file was actually .dat.dat and useless. Did you create this file as per instructions and showing extensions?

FM functionality loss after upgrade... fix coming?

I got a call from TomTom today in response to a letter I sent complaining about the loss of FM functionality with the upgrade and was informed that while they couldn't give me the date of the new update release, this functionality would be restored for the N. American market. We shall see...

Can't get this to work.

I have installed a copy of your support file and went into my control panel and unchecked hide file extensions. I do have firmware 7.110 and 8.3 on my 720. I get the voice recognition buttons to come up but they are grayed out. I also made my own support_asr.dat file and that didn't work either. Any suggestions. Thank you for your time and support.

7.221

I had the same problem but with 7.221. I updated the firmware
to the last version before you loose the FM transmitter and I could
see the ICONs now however it didn't work well at all.
At firmware 8.3 it works perfectly.

i have 7.11 and 8.3

I can't get even the buttons on the version 7. Did get the buttons to work on my 8.3 but they are grayed out and they don't work. I've seen it work on u tube. And ive checked my asr file it shows all the files that is shown on the example of this post. I don't understand why it don't work.

I'll say again..............firmware 7.110 will NOT work. See my previous post for a link to firmware that should work.

Im not using the the 7.11 though I'm using 8.3

I just said that I had the 7.11 on here, I'm currently running the 8.3. And I can't get this to work. I do have the grayed out buttons though. If you can help with that I would be very grateful. Thank you for your time and support.

I was also wrong it wasn't the 7.11 that I had on my unit

It wasn't 7.11 that I first had on my unit it was 7.22. Thank you for your time and support.

GPS signal strength

I also realized that with this set up the way it is now on mine (buttons showing but not working) It has weakened my GPS signal strength. I take the support_asr.dat file off and I get my GPS signal back. Maybe this info can help you understand what my unit is doing. Again thank you for your time and support.

The signal strength of the satellites and the support file have nothing to do with each other (or shouldn't have....).

The only things I can think of: 1) Preferences-->QuickMenu Preferences --> See if Navigate to Spoken Address is an option and, if it is, check the option. See whether the icons are activated then.

2) Restore to Factory Defaults. You'll lose custom settings but may be worth a shot.
