Voice Recognition on 720 - Discussion

Yes, the extract file creates a folder with all the files that need to put at the root directory of TomTom otherwise it would not work.

Try extracting the ASR file again make sure that the ASR folder is in the root TomTom directory and say yes to any replacement of old files.

Shall I use explorer to backup my tomtom and copy that to the Sd card? I copied the backup image created by tomtom home to my Sd card for the internal drive.

So, the other five files in the folder in step 6 is not necessary? Would it do harm if they have been copied to? Can they be removed without any issue?

Just wanted to drop a quick note to indicate that I decided to go ahead and install NavCore 8.300.9732 and the v815.2019 maps on my 720 last night. When the firmware upgrade was done, I noticed that I had gained the ASR folder and all the files and once the new maps got loaded, all the cspeech.* files were there. The only change that I did was added the support_asr.dat file to the ASR folder.

Rebooted and voice recognition works!! One more thing: based on a test drive (to and from work), no stuttering from Susan. Knock on wood!!

This thread has gone off topic. I will remove all the posts regarding the navcore x40 crack on the other units. The ttsystem file has been cracked to work on these units and it is not stable. You will risk bricking your unit. Only official Navcore files maybe posted here.
FYI: updating the bootloader is risky. You can never downgrade or restore it back to the original.

Worked with Version 8.300 and Noeth America v815.2019

I just followed the instructions as outlined after purchasing a map update for v815.2019. VR works great.

Hey Everyone
My VR work great after all the instructions except one problem. When I use VR is does not get any of the cities or street names correctly.
Do I have to calibrate the voice or adjust something in order to improve accuracy.

Thanks in advance.

First, make sure your unit is fully charged.
Are you simply going for VR or did you try some other modification?

Just going for the VR. I tried by saying 10 different cities around my area and it only got one right.

Is the technology just not there yet? Anyone else having the same accuracy problem?

Thanks

Don't know if you're having the same issue I was having, but here's what I did to solve it.

First, I'm assuming that you have map 815.2019.

If so, did you already have the cspeech files installed on your 720 before upgrading to map 815? I did, and I think it messed up VR for me until I did the following.

First, back up your 720. Next, if you don't know, check to see where your TomTom Home downloads folder is. I believe it's in your Documents folder. Look for a TomTom folder. Navigate to Home > Download > Complete > map > North_America_2GB. In that folder, you should have a zipped file named North_American_2GB.zip.

In the North_America_2GB.zip file you should see all the cspeech_*.dat files (ex. cspeech_AL.dat, cspeech_FL.dat, etc.)

If you see these files, delete the cspeech_*.dat files on your TomTom and replace them with the files in the North_America_2GB.zip file.

Restart your TomTom.

This cleared up my VR issue. I've tried about 15 cities so far and VR has worked every time, where as before I could not get VR to accurately work with any cities.

Good luck! :)

BTW, ff this info is already posted somewhere in this thread, my bad. I'm just a newbie trying to help out. ;)

need help, no ASR folder

I have read all of these and it got me more confused.

my App is 7.221
map is North America 2GB v710.1584
Tom Tom 720

I looked in my map folder and there is no ASR folder.

My head is spinning with all the post and I need
to start fresh with how to do this.

I can not speak to my TOMTOM to input addresses.
I think that's what everyone is talking about.
Sounds cool to me and I would like to do it.
My TomTOm does speak with street address back
to me fine.

I did read post 1 several times but as I read on I get
confused. Would there be another version of the how to
do this around?

thanks
Ken

Ken, the firmware version you have and the map you have ARE at the minimum level for VR (voice recognition).

But...............

Other files are required. Use Explorer to look at the contents of your NA folder. You should be seeing a bunch of csspeechxx.dat files, one for each state and one for CAN (Canada).

If you see no cspeech.dat files whatsoever, that probably is because some 7.10 maps got released without them. That is why Pedro2NR provided a link to get them and put them in the map NA folder.

Next issue is the fact you say you have no asr folder. That could be an issue. Can you select a computer voice and,, if so, does it work?

If so, also use Pedro's link to get the support_asr.dat text file. Create an asr folder in the unit and put that file in it.

Report back........

Can I do this all on a 4GB SDHC card?

Ken

This wasn't required at all since I was using a 4GB SDHC card. The only reason Home doesn't install the speech files while you are installing a new map is because if the Home software sees that you are low on space, it knows everything won't fit, so it ends up installing only the map.

I never once had to create/mod/copy any files to my device to get VR to work. As long as you have space during installation of a map, the speech files get copied over and VR is activated. On rare occasions, the device is missing that .dat file, and you will have to create it, but I never once had to. VR worked out of the box, and worked through every software and map update. Never once lost it.

Here is a link to a thread I started a few months back that explains VR and certain things I have tried...

progress

I copied the complete internal drive to an external SDHC card.
I then copied the speech files into the North America folder.
Next I created a folder called asr and copied the dat file.
Put the card in the tomtom and booted off it. I hit
Navigate to then Address. Now I can see 2 new ICONs.
"Spoken address" and "Spoken address (dialog)"

If I choose Spoken address (dialog) it ask me to state City.
I have a message on the screen that states "One moment please"
It's been there for 5 minutes now with no change. I spoke a City
but it has not changed.
That's where I am right now.

Ken

Try a pin rest, Ken. Also, make sure you (manually) selected the proper state before verbally selecting the city.

update

a friend help me update my firmware to 8.010. This rev still retains the FM transmitter.
it also has included the ASR folder that mine was missing.
I copied just the RI speach file over and now it appears to work however
it doesn't get the City right. It either tells me that it doesn't recognizes it
or comes back with the wront City. It gets the street and number right.

However some how I ended up with a bad "connect2internet.db.encode"
file in the root that I cannot copy or copy over from a backup.
I might try a pin reset and see if that fixes the problem.

Ken

Ken, there should be a file called connect2internet.db in the root, but NOT one that ends with 'encode'. I'm not sure a pin reset will help, but try.

Also try to rename the 'encode' file to something else (like connect2internet.db.encode.bak.) If you can and the units functions ok (as it should) then try to delete the .bak file.

I did that this morning and it worked. I was able to delete the bad file then
copy one from an earlier back up.

I only copied the Rhode Island speech file into the North America folder.
Did not see any reason to copy all the States.

Any reason why it has such a hard time recognizing the City?

Ken

Record voice and Enable recorded voice

both of these icons are in grey. Should I have access to these features?

Ken
