Voice Recognition on 720 - Discussion

lost my VR

This is strange.. I have everything on an external SD.
I removed the external card and them powered up from the stock
older App and map on the internal card. I wanted to see if it was
still working. Powered down, put the external SD card back in.
Powered up. Lost the VR. It states it is the correct App and map
NO VR icons. Did the pin reset, factory reset. Still no VR.

Any tips?

Ken

If you have the navcore and map on the SD, then I would remove it form the internal memory. Perhaps back it up and see if it works.

Here's what had to do. I had a backup of a slightly new App. Not
the latest that is on my external SD. So I deleted everything
on my internal and restored a backup with a newer App. I think
it was 8.01. I let it boot off the internal and noticed my VR icons where
back. This App had terrible performace with VR. Then I powered
down, put my external SD card and booted up. All was restored.
Go figure? The only think I noticed is when ever I boot off the internal
then later boot off the external SD, many of my settings are gone.
Car symbol, bluetooth, etc. I have to set them over again.
I thought those settings get stored on the SD card but maybe they
get stored in RAM ?

VR on 720 in Australia - Success

IF you have a new 720 and are entitled to the map upgrade (V815), you will have to call TT Tech Support. They will give you a e-mail address or fax number to send in a copy of your receipt. Send it in, wait about an hour and call them back. They will then put the free upgrade authorization in your TT HOme account.

Do the upgrade. It will take about 4 hours on a 1 MB line.

TT Home will install the upgrade but NOT the Cspeech files.

Under the download folder in TT Home, you will find the zip folder for North America 2G. Unzip it to another folder. The Cspeech files wil be under the main directory of the new folder. Copy them (all or only the states you will be traveling in) into the North America 2G folder on your TT 720. In the ASR folder, make sure you have the Support_asr. dat file with only a 1 in it.

The VR should work after this.

The VR is very limited but I heard that TT has a new version in Europe that has many more commands. One can only hope.

Thanks for that post Flyinwilly.

If anyone in Aus is having trouble with VR on their 720 and haven't seen Flyinwilly's post, you might like to give this a go.
I didn't have any voice recognition prior to reading his post.

I have the latest system version 8.301 and Australia v815

I followed his post from where he says "TT Home will install the upgrade but NOT the Cspeech files".
I extracted the zipped Australia file stored at:
My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Download\complete\map\Australia

Once extracted, this contains a file called cspeech_AUS.dat (7.93Mb)
Copy it into the Australia folder in Tomtom.
Of course you seem to also need the file support_asr.dat and there are any number of posts about that.

I made sure I had a computer voice selected.
It appears to work well.

Thanks dennisc that worked nicely for me. :) I actually thought that VR had been removed with the latest app and australian map. My VR is back and working well now.

I go to click on "Navigat to spoken address (dialog)". It says, "One moment please..." then goes to the keyboard screen and tells you to type in your city. A sign in the top right flashes up "Imput not Recognized:"

I have tried this about 20 different times, and have gotten the voice to work 2 times. It says one moment please, then I speak the city, and a list pops up, with the one I said at the top. I click on it and it goes back to the "One moment please... screen and restarts the devise.

Any help?

I have read the whole thread and have tried going htrough all the suggestions.

Thanks

What Navcore version are you using? Today there was a new navcore released, you may want to try that.

I have gotten it to work. I now use the spoken address button instead of the spoken address (dialog) button. I am not sure what the difference is but since it is working I am not going to worry about it.

Ok...I am really starting to question my abilities to do anything computer related now! I cannot get the two dialogue voice icons to even show up. Ok, here is what I have and have done:

Using NA map 825.2157 on an external card (individual state speech.dat files are there)
Using Application 8.302 on the internal
Re-downloaded Pedro's support file with a (1) just to make sure that the (1) was there
Using a computer voice (Richard)
Have UN-checked the 'Hide extensions for known file types'
Have done a pin reset a couple of times
Using a GO720

There is something obvious that I am not seeing...or understanding. I am hoping for help and hope that this post might help some poor soul in the same boat. Maube I am just not supposed to have this convenience.

You may want to use another ASR folder. I uploaded mine here awhile ago. I can't the thread where I linked it. I may have to re-upload.

Well.......that would seem to me that for the newest 720 units, TomTom has enabled Voice Recognition at the factory. If so, I guess we can stop calling the VR a 'hack' and start calling it a 'feature'.

I am not sure if this is the case or not, I was just setting up a friends refurb "730" they bought last week. and when I was setting it up I noticed it dosen't have the VR on it not even the icons and the 730 is supposed to have VR.

I was working with TT support this am to try and resovve the issue and have had to RMA the unit.
even after updating the software to 8.302

I just purchased a new TT Go 720 and updated thru TT Home. My firmware is 8.302 and NA Maps are 710.15.

I placed the voice file in my ASR folder but the voice options are both grayed out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Do you have cspeech.dat files in the NA map folder? Do you have a support_asr.dat file in the asr folder with just a 1 in it?

Did you read through the entire thread for some tips?

No, I do not have the cspeech.dat files in the NA map folder but I do have the support_asr.dat file in the asr folder.

I have read the threads thru - How do I get the cspeech.dat files?

Thx

Bob
