Go 5200 withdrawn support for sim

I'm not too clued up with all this tech, but the way i see it, youll get navigation but no traffic or speed camera
Unless you connect to your phone, you will not receive this 'live' data, but you do have that option.

I'm going over to waze, just one gadget..my phone
Wouldn't want to use that in some locations here in Colorado.

There's no option for downloaded maps, and here in the mountains, we don't have cell coverage everywhere.

I'd need to choose something more like the TomTom GO app.

I think I'm the only one in my circle of friends that use tomtom

I am getting confused here (despite having looked on this thread) - When I turned on my device at Heathrow after a holiday it came up with a message about Sim support ending but no date, my wifes older device has not shown this message. I have received no emails or other communication. What is happening and WHEN is this happening?

Just curious -

Your device is an x200 model, and your wife's is an older x000 or x100 model?

Tomtom has not given any specific date for the SIM deactivation, as you may have read, it is coming soon.

so when does the data on the 5200 actually stop?
Over cellular? It seems to have already be begun and continues. No one knows when the process will be complete.

Using your phone to get traffic for your 5200? No shut down date is anticipated at this time. It's the from the same traffic server as handles all of the other devices and the phone apps, too.

So I got an email yesterday stating;

Important update about your TomTom sat nav your GO 5200 is reaching the end of its built-in SIM support which means soon you will not be able to receive TomTom Traffic via your built-in SIM anymore.

Straight away I thought dirty trick by Tom Tom trying to get you to upgrade the latest model as others have said, it did say lifetime but they do include within the small print what they determined to be a lifetime, it appears the lifetime of a small animal.

Anyway I knew rwg mobile which I purchased a SIM card from for my partners TomTom go 520 and coupled up to an unlocked WiFi dongle.

5 Year SIM data only - 100MB per month
Discount (“RWG20”) -£3.20
Subtotal £12.79
Delivery £0.00
Including VAT at 20% £2.13
Total £12.79

You can also get a Huawei WiFi dongle for about £25. So for £37.79 that'll keep you with data in the car for 5 years, not bad and works out at 63p a month.

3rd SIM down the page

WiFi dongle

So you understand now that this definitely isn't the case, and that all new models after the era of the 6200 require the same use of your cell phone or the same kind of solution you just explained, above. Right? You got one of the last cellular capable devices that TomTom sold.

Is TomTom going to do this deactivating or not as Willy875 says if there's 2g we won't be.
Has anyone got an accurate answer?

I can't understand what you have written.

He means that Tomtom no longer make any satnav with integral SIM, so you need to connect to a phone or other data source.
Noted, I plan to do that in my previously mentioned post 👍
You can get live data through WiFi hotspot, not just Bluetooth.

They have already done it to lots of us. 2g will be here in the UK for some years but Tomtom disconnected our 5200 SIM a few weeks ago.
