Go 5200 withdrawn support for sim

Willy875 is wrong then
No, I'm not wrong if your SIM card is not deactivated yet, it's just a matter of a few days or what week before it is.

Tomtom will deactivate all SIMs so that everyone is the same, and so that everyone connects to a phone.

This also allows that if you travel to another country to always be connected to traffic.

Forgive me if I don't understand, but you posted that if a country has 2G the SIM won't be disconnected....

Yes, that was before Tomtom decided to disable SIM cards.
Currently, whether 2G is active or not in your country, the SIM should be disabled.

What I regret is that Tomtom does not communicate about this choice.

Ah,OK...now that's clarified it.

I can't understand what you have written.
Then let me be clearer. You had once evidently believed that TomTom was doing this to cause their customers to buy new units. That's obviously not true because none of the new units have cellular capability, either, so the customer is just as well off keeping what they already have if this is a problem for them.

And yes, my own preference is to use WiFi (vs. Bluetooth), especially with iOS devices.

Late to the party as always.
bought my 6200 just before covid started and bobs ya donk ive been in lockdown ever since so almost 5 years working from home. 6 month old brand new bmw and only got 200 miles on the clock. not used the tt yet in this car but previous bmw hybrid crap lasted a year and i dumped it back to them and bought a 2 series coupe.
sadly the sat nav in both beemers are crap and until today so is my tomtom.
I got the warning screen urgent attention needed and to scan the barcode. which opened a gaming advert. once closed i got the message you have all been talking about. If i dont update this before they turn off the sim will i still be able to update at a later date or is that risking it.
Next, A major road is closed by wembley stadium for 6 months and my beemer takes me straight through the closed high road so i thought id check tt. updated uk maps today as not been on hols for over 7 years so not bothered with eu and world maps. as soon as tt is turned on it defaults to the europe map. i change it back to uk & ireland map, i set route to work on tt and that takes me the exact same way through the closed road. out of all of them waze is the only one that diverts me another 5 miles in the opposite direction which is the only way to go. Thing is it looks like i still have live traffic active so shouldnt the tt pick this up. on the screen its shows the road closed (pic attached).
thanks in advance all.

A fair bet:

That's because Waze is 'crowd-sourced' and the governmental agency responsible for providing road closure information in that area has dropped the ball and the none of the mapping companies have the data that would have caused them to indicate a closed road.

makes sense. thanks for the reply. think ill cut my losses with tomtom and also change my bmw map to android auto and switch to waze.

The crazy thing is wembley has released dates of 3 stadium events (90,000) and 32 arena events (11,000) while this major route is closed until end of may to replace water mains pipes.
i wonder how many will be sent by their navs in this direction to a closed road right next to wembley stadium.

I have a 5200 that I use infrequently in a little used Jaguar XKR. I brought the car out of winter hibernation and got the TT deactivation message yesterday. Very annoyed that although I am in UK and the 2G network is still active, it seems that TT has already deactivated my SIM as I have no traffic connection.

I read a helpful contribution in this thread about using the Tasker app to automatically switch a phone’s hotspot on when it detects the car’s bluetooth, which seems a good solution, but Tasker is an Android only app.

For those who have an iPhone there is a Shortcuts app in the appstore which seems to do the same thing. I have just downloaded it on my phone and set it to turn on the hotspot when it detects the car’s bluetooth. Hopefully it will save the trouble of fiddling around whenever I get in the car.

I also found the Tasker and WiFi hotspot advice very useful. At the moment I achieved the same as Tasker with Macrodroid which, according to reviews, has a more intuitive UI.

OK. Just tested it all out and it works fine. Set up an automation to turn on the hotspot when the phone detects the car’s bluetooth (mine is from a Parrot phone system) and another to turn off the hotspot when the bluetooth is not detected. I found that the option to “maximise compatibility” in the iPhone’s hotspot settings had to be on otherwise the TT can’t see the hotspot.
