Go 5200 withdrawn support for sim

No it's not, it uses the phones Bluetooth tethering to provide an internet connection to anything connected to that connection.

This was done twice using Go 6200 and Premium X, read carefully, and the settings might be worded differently. I couldn't find what it said, so I searched and found hotspot tethering, that's not a hot spot providing WiFi the same way.

Normally you set up a hot spot, but they tell you to do it differently via Bluetooth, I've never don't this before, but following the instructions, both of my Tomtom units connect to my Samsung S24, it it gives those connections internet access
I know what it does with Bluetooth. We were talking about connecting to the mobile phone using a WiFi mobile hotspot instead of using Bluetooth, as the Bluetooth connection is so unreliable.
And it works. I now get traffic information that way, as they disabled the SIM and the Bluetooth connection does not work.

Reliability that's another problem, although while driving around London, my Tomtom always lost connection. So maybe now my phone on the 02 network might give a better connection

what do the community think about it being illegal for tomtom to remove the sim service whilst vodafone is still providing 2g in the uk. would it be against the consumer rights in the uk for tomotom to do this
Unit must be less that 6 years old, and you need to prove the device no longer works because of manufacturing faults, I'm thinking, no SIM card working, it's covered, I contacted consumer advice, they contact trading standards, that's it, you need to prove there are faults that are the result of bad manufacturing, if it was Amazon, they would refund, but this is Tomtom, low life

Lifetime traffic yes, lifetime SIM card no.
Where did this sudden realization come from? You've always said like a mantra: As long as the G2 network is in operation, TT won't switch off the SIM card.
Are you starting to believe it now?

I recognize that with Tomtom everything is possible.

My TomTom is also having charging issues, so I might sacrifice mine for science.
Will be very interested in your results. For the x200 devices, we've seen several instances of successful Vodafone transplants, though it's unclear if any particular Vodafone card type / pay-as-you-go plan is to be preferred.

I too would be curious to see how it can work.
An answer from a former Tomtom forum moderator.
Because there is no number like for a mobile but the SIM has an identifier.

Positive SIM swapping feedback from @Dirk_NL for NL and DE.

If this works, TomTom still saves the money for the SIM plan and you have to pay for it then, but at least you would not have to fiddle around with one or more mobilephones (every driver) to get a hotspot open all the time you start driving.

Of interest -- my phone is configured to automatically turn on its WiFi hotspot when I start my vehicles. It then automatically turns off the hotspot soon after I turn the vehicles off.

I use a little Android tool called Tasker that runs all the time, and when it sees the Bluetooth in my vehicles, it uses that as an indicator to automatically set up the phone as a WiFi hotspot. It doesn't do anything with the car's Bluetooth connection, it just uses the presence of that to flip the hotspot toggle to enable it.

The tool has a rather steep learning curve, but it's a slick piece of work if you can manage it.

I tried a Lebara rolling contract SIM that uses the Vodafone network and I can confirm that unfortunately that doesn't work so it must be Vodafone only.
The Vodafone pay as you go packages start from £7 a month. I think I'll have a look at Tasker first.

Nowhere on any Tomtom information, available at time of purchase, says that the "Lifetime" services are not really lifetime as they depend on an inbuilt sim that they can discontinue at any time. Disgraceful!
Well said mikenew, 100 % agree - DISGRACEFUL!

I have received an email saying that the sim in my Go 5200 will no longer be supported.
i do not have a smartphone to connect to the TomTom and would like to know whether I will still be able to use the Tom Tom for navigation purposes.
…and answer came there none.
Not surprised mind you.
They don’t do support any more.

I'm not too clued up with all this tech, but the way i see it, youll get navigation but no traffic or speed camera

You will still have the radar announcement.
The radars are installed on the GPS map, however you will no longer receive them live.

At the moment my internal tom toms sim is working,
On the 5200 I touch on th 2 cars at the top, i see my phone ...which is paired....its says can't connect...why?
