I have map 720.1803 and firmware 7.481 and can not get VR to work. By the way where are the speach files, I do not see them in the north america map file.

The cspeechxxx.dat files should be in the NA map folder. Are you located in NA or Europe? The reason I ask is that some are reporting for 920 units that their 720 maps only have the cspeech files for their region. In other words, European get the speech files for their European 720 map, not NA map and vice versa. Perhaps that is the case with you.

I suspect a call to support may be in order asking for a link to the cspeech files you are missing.

Help!!!

I just brought a TomTom go 720 and uploaded the new firmware and maps. I don't find the speech reconition icons in the address menu. Does that mean I can't get voice recognition feature.... ?
It's version 7.481
Map North America _2GB v720.1803

Does anybody actually have these files available?

To enable Voice Recognition on your 720 you must need the following:

• NA Maps 7.10 version with voice recognition files. Here is an example:
  
  
  
  
  
• You also need the Firmware 7.221 installed
  
• A text file called support_asr.dat with ONLY the number 1 in it.
  NOTE: I attached the file. Unzip it and put the file in your ASR folder on the unit.

I bought my 720 a few months ago and was very frusterated to learn that while some people have VR others don't. All because TomTom wants to make more money on the 920.

I admire everyone trying to help others reinstall VR on their 720's. However after 2+ months of trying to find links or torrents to download the files I can't seem to get ahold of them.

I am asking if anyone out there has the files listed as well as Firmware 7.221. I would appreciate a listing of where they might be, either as a direct link or a torrent file. If you are concerned with being tracked I would even be willing to accept a disk mailed COD to me containing the files and I will create a torrent myself to assist others with being able to reinstall this nearly necessary function.

Please reply to this message and I will give the address of where to send it.

For people missing the NA speech files for map 720 get them here: http://tomtom.com/updates/ASR_North_America.zip
and put them in the NA map folder.

If that doesn't work with firmware 7.481, get the 7.221 firmware here:
http://www.oldboy.me.uk/TomTomUpdates/index.html

and overwrite the files in the root of the unit with those in the link.

By the way, both sets of files are legal. Any talk of warez torrent stuff (i.e, illegal files) gets people nowhere in forums such as this.

Also, I have a GO720, with app 7.481 with map "North_America_2GB" v705.1481, and it says it is the latest... ????

Australia Settings

If your in Australia here are the App Version and Map Version you need to make it work - App Version is 7.481 - Map Version v700.1491 - No other Map Versions will work at this time. There are 2 new map upgrades after this Version but will not work. Any Questions Just ask away!

I have VR working with the following configuration:

I originally had the 710 map before I updated sometime ago, I'm glad I didn't lose the VR feature as some have suggested. I don't know thw whys, I'm just stating my situation in case it helps someone. GL

I see others have asked for the Cspeech files and been pointed to a link that seems to be no longer working. I have 720 and updated maps and software, but no ASR or VR. I read somewhere here with people actually having it working with the newest maps and software. I do not have the Cspeech files, but would like to have them. I'm sure someone out there must have copies of the cspeech files needed? where can I download them?

a little question...I am expecting my 720 to arrive soon. It has US&Canada maps preloaded. Can I install the NA maps within the 30 day period to be able to activate the VR?

It should NOT come with a USA & Canada map. It should come with the North America map loaded. The latest version is 7.20. If you don't have that installed then, yes, the LMG should allow you to dl it within 30 days.

Also, make sure you make a complete backup of the unit's contents using Explorer, not TTHome when it arrives and, further, I'd suggest getting yourself a 4 gig sdhc card formatted for fat32. It will make your life easier.

Need Help


JUST UPDATED MY MAP TO 7.20 AND MY FIRMWARE IS 7.481 I DID WHAT YOU SAID WITH THE ZIP FILE AND I NOW HAVE THE SPOKEN ADDRESS AND SPOKEN ADDRESS (DIALOG) ICONS BUT WHEN I HIT EITHER ONE THE SCREEN I NEED POPS UP BUT JUST FOR A SECOND NOT LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO DO ANYTHING IT DOES GO INTO THE CITY SCREEN AND MY MOUTH AND MIC IS READY ON THE KEY BOARD BUT THE MOUTH IN THE RT CORNER IN GRAY. HOW DO I FIX THIS?

I thought that a 720 could not suppport 4 gig sdhc card inserted into it (max 2gb) ?????
Can someone please confirm that they have test this on a GO720 & it works ?
Also I loaded App 7.481 and all my VR problems went away and my Aust map v700.1491 started working with VR, BUT I lost VR on my EU maps !!
Nothing is ever simple !!

The 720's most definitely DO support 4 gig sdhc cards. The unit can read and write to that sized card. It is with larger cards that there are issues in that the 720 can read from that sized card but not write to it.

The whole issue with VR has become quite muddled lately with new maps & firmware updates. Make sure there are voice files for the EU map and then keep the EU map & its voice files on one memory location (internal or sd) and the NA map in the other memory location. Try that.

Tap the satellite bars once to see the firmware version on your unit. Tap THAT screen and the next shows the map and version installed.

Hi, new user here. I just bought a GO 720 unit. After fighting with the HOME app, I installed all the updates to it, including the Navcore 8.010 and North America map 7.20... Only after I did that, I read that it is possible to enable voice recognition by simply creating a .dat file with 1 as content and putting it in ASR directory.

Well, I have done that, and I also did the soft reset. Unfortunately, all I get is greyed out buttons, and cannot get VR to work. Has anybody been able to use the VR with 8.x Navcore?

Unfortunately, many are reporting Nav8 broke VR. I hope you made a FULL backup of your unit using Explorer prior to the update.
