Voice Recognition on 720 - Discussion

Frank,
click >>>>HERE<<<< to download the cspeech files for the 815 map.
Thank you very much for your help Pedro... but... I downloaded it twice with the same results. In both cases RAR told me it was a corrupt archive (unknown method). I tried the RAR repair but it didn't work either.

Am I right in assuming that once I get this file, I only need the cspeach_co.DAT FILE (I'm in Colorado) and to place this in the NAMaps directory?

Thanks again,

-Frank

Pedro! I GOT IT! HALLELUJAH!

My mistake about the RAR files you uploaded! I mistakenly loaded an old version of RAR I had on the hard drive rather than my newer (registered) version. When I realized this and loaded the correct RAR program your download unpacked fine.

Afterword I just placed the cspeech_CO.dat file into my North_America_2GB directory and my VR icons colored up (were grayed out before - with only the support_asr.dat file).

Then I tested it and it worked! HOT DOG!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Sorry for the false alarm about RAR not unpacking your uploaded files.

------------------
Note For others - What I had to do to make this work...
1) Copy the support_asr.dat file into the TomTom\ASR folder (this is a text file with only the number 1 in it)
2) Copy the desired speech file(s) into the TomTom\North_America_2GB folder. (i.e. cspeech_CO.dat since I live in and need only Colorado).

Oh... and immediately did a Windows Explorer Backup after I had it working! :D

710.1584 cspeech files?

Pedro:

I have followed the instructions on this thread with mixed results. The VR does activate, but I get "Input not recognized." If I understand correctly, it is because I am missing the correct cspeech files. I tried copying the 815 version over, but I guess they don't work. I saw you mentioned you would post the 710.1584 files when you found them. I hope that does the trick. Thanks in advance

I beleave if you care to download the New 8.320 file for the 720 from the UK site
and the Liquendo file . you will have everything working except operate my Go in home.
and this is only a simulator.
8.320 file from UK site

Thanks to Andy!

For the loqendo File I am using with all computer voices working well.

Thanks to member on here ! ( Sageuagony)

Loqendo File down load

Type in 3 leter code wait for free download counter to count down and then save the file to you computer and then open it with Winrar and extract it to your TT unit over writing the Loqendo file on you unit. voila everything should work great.

I have everything working perfectly including Gps fixes & mapshare updates.

Still Having Issues Getting Voice Recognition on my 720...almost there...help!

OK..I've read this entire thread, and have taken baby steps in getting my 3 week old 720 to get voice recognition. Here are my vitals, and history:

Firmware: Version 8.300
Map: North_America_2GB v710.1584

History:
1. When I first received the device, I did not even have icons for VR
2. I created the support_asr.dat file and copied it into the ASR folder, and the icons for VR appeared, but were greyed out.
3. I still didn't have any CSPEECH files at all in my North_America_2GB folder, and I did not have any folder named "MAPS" in my HOME\Downloads folder. After searching this forum, I found someone had posted these files for download (albeit the 815 version of North America maps), but i downloaded those, and copied the Massachusets CSPEECH file into my North_America_2GB folder. All of a sudden, both icons went from Grey to active.
4. However, when i click on any of them, the system doesn't seem to recognize any voice, and if I click the lips icon at the bottom (to the right of the space bar) from either of the "Spoken Address" screens, nothing happens. The semi-sircle in the upper right corner with the picture of the lips is completely greyed out.

Any suggestions??? Is it possible that the version 815 CSPEECH files is not compatible with the 710 maps? Is there something else I'm not doing? I've tried doing a reset, and still nothing happens...I feel like I am SOOOO close after doing this for a week now....please help!!

Use Explorer and see if there is a specific folder on your unit (not on the pc) called NA_2GB. If so, see if there are cspeechxx.dat files in the NA map folder.

I'll upload the 810 cspeech just to verify if they work for you.

This may be a naive question, but is the "810 cspeech" the same as 710? Also, when you say that you will upload them, where will I be able to access them from?

Thanks so much for your help!

That folder does exist, but there are no cspeech files in there....it might be worth noting that the version of NA_2GB maps i have is the "smaller" version...i've read somewhere else that maybe on the "larger" version of those maps (the 815) has the cspeech files...is that true? It says that i have to pay $75 for that version, but I also read that i may be entitled to receive that for free....how do i go about finding out if i get that free? and if so, should i just do that first?

I would say yes, upgrade OS/Maps first. Since you are within your first 30 days.

Some say the "Use Latest Map Guarantee" should work from within TT HOME. It didn't work for me. Just kept saying that I had the latest map already. Even though I had Version 710. When I went to "Add Maps" I could see the version 815 available for download for $89. My unit was only a week old at the time. I called TT (866-486-6866) and they agreed to make it available for me to download via TT HOME. As soon as they did that I got the newest version (815) for free via "upgrade" within TT HOME. They'll probably ask for proof of purchase (i.e. scan and sent via email is their preferred way). I got by without doing that 'cuz they said they were bending the rules a little due to the Xmas rush or something. So they authorized me immediately. However, it seems like that is a rarity. Be prepared for a long download (even at 7Mb/sec).

After you have version 815 maps and version 8.300 OS (app) the VR files you have now should work. They did for me. My symptoms were exactly like yours.

Edit: Oh... I think Pedro did a typo when he said 810... I imagine he meant 710.

Thanks for the prompt response...I will do that tomorrow (they are closed on Sunday) and post back the results.

I'm just thrilled that there is hope for me after what seems like endless frustration (though the reality is it has only been a week)...This forum is OUTSTANDING.

New tomtom user

I just bought a 720 yesterday from Bestbuy for $179.00. Looks to be a great unit. It has the 8.300 firmware and the v710.1584 maps. The VR doesn't work although many sites have advertised it for this model. Based on what I have read on this forum, I loaded the .dat file into the ASR folder. I now have the the greyed out VR icons. Even though the unit came with the 8.3 firmware, the ASR folder was not in the unit until I reloaded the firmware with TT HOme. After updating TT Home, it says that I have the latest map updates.

I called TT Tech support this AM and they said I had to e-mail the receipt which I did. The tech also said that it would be several days before they could get back with the authorization for the map updates. Seems like a pretty stupid way to do things. I would think that they should have a puter that could keep tracks of these things. Doesn't bode well for future problems.

If and when I get the update, I'll post the results. Thanks for all of the good info so far.

FlyinWillie,
$179!!! I'm going back to Best Buy tonight to get more money! I bought mine 3 weeks ago for $299, then went back with my receipt and got $50 back when the price dropped to $249...now it's at $179 I hope they give me an additional $70 back...wonder why it's dropping so fast...

Anyway, looks like you and i are in the exact same boat regarding the VR. I talked to tech support today and they opened a ticket for me. I uploaded a scanned picture of my receipt from Best Buy to the open ticket, and got a response within the hour saying that they added the new map to my account. Don't know why your tech said it would take several days...I'm at work now but will download tonight when i get home (after i get my money from BB of course), and will let you all know how it goes...
