Tomtom and Google

...and you both followed the instructions, accurately?

...including the part that said to zoom in and move the start point a bit, then move it back? ...and do the same with the destination point?

if it can't find saddr (probably start address), I'd guess you forgot this step.

Ok, I was a little confused by that step - moving the start point. :) I will try that. It looks like an excellent tool - I actually use it to map garage sales. :)

On another note, is there any software someone can recommend that would "intelligently" map an itinerary? Say I give it 20 destinations, I'd want the software to develop the route without me having to do it manually on Google...

works fine for me. I did a 250 mile route from Mpls to Wisconsin and it shows up just fine on the 720. And it's easier than Tyre in Google Earth because you're focused on roads and routes rather than topography.

Moved the start and end, but then I get an error that the next destination doesn't have a coordinate.

Here's a sample:

//maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=8199547275842491317,42.346292,-89.037897%3B9748119502368164883,42.346159,-89.037881&saddr=Cameo+Dr+%4042.346290,+-89.037880&daddr=9324+lawson+dr,+machesney+park,+il+to:Cameo+Dr+%4042.346160,+-89.037880&mrcr=0,1&mra=ps&sll=42.351765,-89.033355&sspn=0.01405,0.024462&ie=UTF8&z=16&om=1

(Note: I deleted the http: as this website kept converting it into a URL)

The error I receive is "Error: No coordinates specified for location "9324 lawson dr, machesney park, il "."

I have my address as the start, and also as the end, and then I used the "add a destination" on Google to add Lawson Dr. Then I moved Lawson to between my start and end. Unless I zoom in and change each and every waypoint, it doesn't work.

Google doesn't include the coordinates for the destinations added using "add a destination". It works fine if I manually add each address, or if I zoom in on each point and move it....

houghi - Great Program

Is there any way to put this program on a hard drive for those like me who don't have a web site. Just need to keep this one long term in case the website goes down and cannot access it.

Thanks

Correct. Basically, what you're doing is setting a series of waypoints (with coordinates) that will make up the final itinerary (*.itn) file. If you click on the map to create the intermediate waypoints or (as you've discovered) slightly move the waypoints in Google Maps after finding them via the "add a destination" link, then each waypoint will have coordinates.

To answer your other question:

If you enter the waypoints in Google Maps in the order in which you wish to visit them (basically ignoring the routing shown in Google), your TomTom will automatically route between them according to the preferences you've set for routing in the TomTom setup screens.

Using the Google Maps to produce a route doesn't copy the exact route shown on Google to your TomTom -- it merely creates a list of waypoints, and when you choose that itinerary within the TomTom, routing is done from one to the next within the TomTom itself.

missing something basic

I'm missing something that is probably very basic here. I just got my TT One V3 so am not all that familiar with it yet. I made the ".itn" file with no problem, copied it to the "itn" folder on thr TT. Now what? How do I get it to show up on the TT.

Go to Main Menu>Itinerary Planning>Options>Load Itinerary

There you should see the file you created and be able to load it.

I'm still missing something. My main menu does not have "Itinerary Planning", nor can I find anything like that anywhere I've looked.....?????

features deleted in V3 ?

In poking around different topics in this forum, I'm thinking that V3 does not have some of the features that previous versions have had. Including loading an itinerary possibly?

Possibly... but it does have the ITN directory, right?

Last week, I thought I saw a features matrix at TomTom but now I can't find it.

yes the Help me menu is gone because no one has figured out what the proper code is for that option.

custom menu

Thanks to all in th forum. Great place to learn and get help.

Made custom menu. Did lose a couple of things (HELP, MapShare) but gained the very useful Itinerary feature. A few other things revealed...ability to invert screen etc. It's nice to be able to put the most used commands closer to the beginning of the menus.

Thanks again!

Question to the experts:

The Mapshare menu function that's lost can still be accessed through the Virtual TomTom within TomTom Home, correct?

If I understand correctly, Virtual TomTom is a program residing on the PC that relies on the connected TT for the GPS data.

Virtual TomTom does NOT "mirror" whatever's on the TomTom's screen.

Correct?

Correct?

1)Does not seem so. I get the same menus on PC (TT Home) as on device.

2)Someone asked about a "BACK" function. You can get a BACK function but not a BACK ARROW by opening the "mnu' file in notepad and adding the line:
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGEx| - with 'x' bewing the page you want to go to. It will appear with a forward arrow though.

QUESTION:???????

1) The other feature that dissapears when you build a custom menu is the SAFETY PREFERENCES. The ability to turn on/off alarm when you exceed a set speed or speed limit. I saw somewhere a command line for the 'mnu' file MENUITEM|TASK_SET_SAFETY_SPEED| but that does not seem to do anything.

Anyone have ideas?

Too bad there's no way to flip back to original menu from within the TT. Changing the folder name when connected to computer to set the things you can't access from custom menu is ok but to do it from device would be ideal. I guess it IS a GPS though, not a computer. Fun to play around with this stuff though.

Google and routes

I read the first post in this thread and it says that you can save a route in google as an itinerary. Does anyone know how to do this? I couldn't figure it out on the google maps site.
