Battery charging

I've noted twice now that neither your laptop nor a vehicle USB data port is typically designed to produce more than 500mA of current. Especially on a Live model that requires a bit more current than normal, that can be a problem. Even the battery has 4 power wires (2+ and 2-) instead of the 2 of some lesser models.

Please find the cigarette lighter adapter that came with your TomTom, or an equivalent one capable of at least 1A output, and plug into that and see if that changes the behavior.
so you feel its all down to the charging device that charges the GPS up each time??

It's definitely possible, and since it is the correct method for vehicle charging, and the method in use now is prone to failure, it should certainly be attempted as a step in this debugging process! We aren't there, so can only advise step by step work of this nature as if we were. The cig lighter adapters are readily available for pocket change.
