safety cameras activation

with the top poi file downloaded you can choose to show the poi category in browse options

When you select report a camera in tomtom service menu, it will ask you if it is on this side of the road or the other side. It is based on the direction you are travelling so. If you want to report on the cross street, you will then need to submit a written report I believe

I never had PLUS services and when I tried TomTom Services (Main menu 1 of 4) and clicked on some items I used to get the warning
TomTom Services
Could not connect to this
TomTom service. Please check
the wireless data connection on
your mobile phone.

In the past I hadn't bothered with Safety cameras over here as I do stop for red lights and we do not have them for speed as in the UK.

Following your post above I clicked TomTom Safety Cameras and find that Report safety camera is enabled but neither Update safety cameras or Enable automatic updates.

As this will only allow me to report that there is a camera and not that is is only working in some directions I would have to make a written report anyway, as I did under Map errors.

I just went through the motions to report the one that works EB only.
It did let me specify the exact location and after selecting the type as Traffic light camera not Speed camera, the next screen become a selection of speed limits.
If not canceling out at this time the location will be sent with any of the options, e.g., ( ? ).

Another instance of half baked programming.

Nope. Not for me. Home shows that symbol (top red icon) for my listing as being 'on the memory card (where my map is) '. In Browse Map. Show pois, it isn't there .

TomTom quite clearly noted the intersection by naming the cross roads and did NOT allow for any additional details.
The choices are [Options] [Find] [Back] [Done] and only the latter two pertain to the location.

Took the demo ride and did see the icon. My trip, as it turns out, avoided the intersection I had in mind, so I'll have to try a "real time" on it later. I have the sound set to a fairly rude noise that I won't miss when it actually occurs!

Looks like once you have installed the "free" (non-POI but still OV2) option, you don't get to select display/no-display from the POI menu like you normally would. The icons just show up where needed, and you can configure the unit to either make your choice of racket at a set distance or just be quiet about it. No other on/off switch that I can see, although that's really not an issue for me.

I don't even see where I can 'warn when near' the safety cameras. I can with the other built in and custom categories.

Totally different animal, and controlled in a different place. As noted earlier, you'll need to go to TomTom Services, to the Safety Cam area there, and from THERE you can do the configuration of sound, etc. It's not managed in the POI area at all for the version you and I have.

Not for me. When I go to the Safety Camera icon in that area and click, nothing happens.

Oh well, maybe I just won't speed.............

Oh I am sorry
That option (this side of the road / the other side) is only shown if you are using the "Report Safety Camera" in the quick menu. If you are using the menu in the TomTom Services, it doesn't show that

when you go to tomtom services then safety cameras and then change warning preferences and finally all, click not for remove warnings, the number of seconds before camera for warning you and then you select the waring sound

Sorry did not read previous pages of comments on my topic if this does not pertain to you.
I have plus traffic and it goes right through.

Confirmed.
Thanks for the clarification.

You should be banned from this thread. Well, I ask you, your have PLUS services !!!

There we are, poor sods, trying to get it done without PLUS and you have to rub salt into the wounds by telling us "I have plus traffic and it goes right through" !!!

I get there by
Main Menu 3 of 4, TomTom Services >
TomTom Services 1 of 2 TomTom Safety Cameras >
TomTom Safety Cameras Change Warning Preferences

When I click on TT Safety Cameras, my next screen says

"TomTom Safety Cameras, warns you about safety cameras on your route.

You can join this service and download safety camera locations to devices using TomTom HOME.
[OK]"

And when I click 'ok', I get returned to the Safety Camera icon screen. There is also a button at the bottom called 'My Services'. If I click that, I see 'Bluetooth has been disabled" and I'm back at the map screen.

I think Tomtom programmers expected safety cameras to only be purchased, so their PND interface always tries the bluetooth approach. Then the free cameras were for some reason just forced in for the US.

Dhn, I don't think you have the second of the two files (the license file) loaded on your device. I don't think Tomtom offers it to 7xx owners, as I never saw it until upgraded from my 720 to my 930. Everyone else posting here is a 9xx owner.

canderson, did you ever have a 9xx at one time? Home seems to happily transfer safety cameras to any Tomtom model once downloaded, but doesn't seem to download except on a 9xx.

Problem solved guys!

A few minutes ago, I updated my 720 using Home. (I have the safety camera ov2 files in my map folder on the card).

Anyway, when I selected internal, besides mapshares, it offered SAFETY CAMERAS!

So, I dl and installed and now my functionality is the same as Arno described. My only issue now is what sound I want to associate with them.
