Problems downloading maps to new 32 GB Micro SD card. It formats and the essentials says its got 31.8GB memory
but every time I try to download part of world map I paid for "USA and Canada" a message come up " oops something went wrong" and can only download maps to internal memory nothing works after many tries

finding the essentials doesnt work as advertised.
1) It formatts memory cards but wont donload to them
2) The card once formatted by tomtom becomes useless and cant be re formatted by computer or anything else and become junk
3) been trying to copy my routes to another tomtom essentials but it wont work

The 910 allowed you to view internal files and copy them to your desktop and copy to second 910 so you have a duplicate rout plan etc for travel.
With the essentials tomtom have mucked up everything so I have to manually input routes twice once for each tomtom
Tom tom has gone backwards in my view and also many others and as for help from them just forget it

I don't understand why you can't do this?
I have always been able to format an SD by a computer even if it was formatted by a GPS.

3) been trying to copy my routes to another tomtom essentials but it wont work
You cannot copy routes on GO Essential, you must do it with Mydrive.

That doesnt work either so have manually put the rout into another essentials which are rubbish

On Mydrive you are not connected with the same identifiers as your GO Essentiel account.
If it still doesn't work, log out of Mydrive on the GO then log back in with the correct credentials.

I never had problems using the LONG format for FAT32.
Maybe you are trying to format to NTFS and your card is not made for it.

Dont know such thing as long format just Fat 32 and NTFS but anyway you should know that Tomtom formats the memory itself with its own peculiar formatting when you put the card in that renders it useless in any other computer system so it cant be used . It has ruined 3 memory cards so I cant use them in my nikon cameras that cant format them or my windows 7 laptop so have to buy a brand new card to use in my cameras

Go to step #3, remove the check mark in front of Quick Format.

It doesn't matter that TomTom internally formats the card in Linux style if Windows 7 is allowed to format it again [NOT QUICK] to FAT32.

That's simply NOT true. Yes, the TomTom fills the cards with ext2 partitions when it 'formats' them, but they can be installed in a PC and cleanly formatted back as FAT32 after the fact. I've done this frequently when repurposing cards previously used in TomTom devices.

That said, of course you CANNOT just take one of these cards of out a TomTom and place it directly into another device. It must first be properly re-formatted on your PC as FAT32 or whatever the receiving device prefers. If you don't know how to reformat a uSD card in your PC, let us know and we'll discuss that as a separate issue.

If I have ever had a corrupt card the antivirus shredder always works. Formatting doesn't remove everything on the card it just jiggles all around shredding makes it readable again. Try it, what do you have to lose, an SD card that doesn't work anyway. Your choice.

Mac. Insert micro sd card to computer, if it states it cannot open, click initialise, then Open Disc Utility, click the disk and then erase. It will ask in what format you will require it trey FAT 32 or EX Fat.
Hopefully the card will be usable from then on.

On another note but in relation to the thread title I have a GO6200 wifi, which was little used.
It was loaded with Europe (internal memory) and USA maps on a 8GB micro sd card
However I charged it up switched on and was presented with required software update, and a Europe map update.
I updated the software first, then the map.
I then discovered that the USA map was not there.
Tried to reload it onto the card but kept getting 'Opps something is wrong" message.
The sd card is recognised within the device.
A day or two later another software update was available, and that uploaded correctly, together with a myriad of other small map and camera updates.
I have tried factory resets, software restorations and used other sd cards but to no avail
When connecting via mac to MyDrive Connect the 6200 connects but the sd card is not acknowledged.
Go 6200 tells me there is a working formatted card in the device. The card was formatted through the 6200.
Latest downloaded MyDrive Connect tells me not.

Any thoughts anyone. I do rather need the USA map.

Thank you for your time

There is a bug in the recently released version of code (24.100.0001 or .0002) that does not permit a map to be loaded to the uSD card on 520/620/5200/6200 devices and those based upon those platforms. TomTom is very much aware of it, and says they are handling it as a priority.

What stupid committee allowed this to happen as its driving me crazy.
I have now gone out and bought a new SD card as the one I tried to use on tomtom essentials which reformatted it is completely knackered and wont format or work with anything
It sounds like the Post office scandal where software was released before it was checked out causing so many problems. It beggers belief that the upgrades arnt thoroughly tested befor they go out.

Thank you ‘canderson’
I eargerly await news. Where might I know whether the issued has been addressed?
