Upgrade to XL 330S

When it is on, if you hold the power button down, after about 10 seconds it should reboot with the drum sound.

I had it working great, last night. Connected to HOME properly, everything was working just right.
Today, I get the same stupid error I was getting before.

I'm about ready to send this damn thing back.

Copying mapsettings.cfg across models is rarely done. Maybe it's not 100% compatible/reliable. You may want to just delete mapsettings.cfg (losing your favorites) to see if that helps.

Also, try backing up the Tomtom, then do a format of the drive as fat32 (disable quickformat). If the format takes more than an hour or two, or reports bad sectors, then the internal flash ram is defective and you should warranty exchange it.

If the format works, try running update my XL to get a fresh copy of application and map. (you may have to power off/on a few times). That would be the cleanest possible system. If it still crashes, then call support as it's probably a hardware issue.

mvl,
Old favorites and map settings don't matter. I hadn't used the ONE 130 for that long. I have since just started from scratch with my XL 330S. The device itself seems to be working OK. The complications, and error message, arise when I try operating the device through HOME. The other night everything went smooth as silk. The next day, when I connected to HOME and tried to operate device, is when the problems came back.
Is it picking up something when the device updates? Or what?
If it won't communicate with HOME, I don't think I can backup or restore, can I?

EJ

p.s. I edited my previous post, to remove my rant. I apologize for losing my cool.

Thanks.

When the Tomtom connects to the computer, it is recognized as a plain old USB drive? The files on the drive are mostly how HOME recognizes it.

Try doing this kind of backup.

By the way, did HOME reinstall app 8.010 or did it upgrade all the way to 8.082?

8.082 is a new app for the 330s, and normally isn't offered by HOME for upgrade. So we don't have too much experience with it.

In my case, it recognizes it as drive F:\

This back-up running. Now, that I've read that thread I will not use the HOME back-up.

According to HOME --> Manage my XL, my device has 8.082.

So, does this mean, HOME doesn't recognize this app version? And, that is what's causing all the problems?
If so, how do I get my device to use a version that HOME recognizes, and keep my 330S from updating itself?

Looks like we may be onto something.

Thanks for the guidance,
EJ

I just noticed, after doing the backup, the "ttgo.bif" file is back.
How did that get there? I deleted it, as earlier directed.

ttgo.bif, like mapsettings.cfg, recreates itself on boot-up if a previous version of the file is not found on the device.
