TT IQ of 104 !!

I HAVE STARTED ANOTHER SLOW FORMAT.

See you in an hour and a half with an update.

:rolleyes::roll::rolleyes:

Try this... (this is just to get info, not a possible fix)

Hold down the power button well past the drum roll, probably 15 - 20 seconds, so it goes to the information screen and list everything it shows there.

Also, tell us what the first two alpha characters are in the serial number so we know exactly what device you have.

...

It froze exactly as before.
Not good.

Do you think that maybe if I format, then attach to HOME, then install the first application HOME offers, then disconnect before I install any more, and try the unit without the second app update, that it may cure it?
At this point, all we can hope is that it does something 'new' rather than bombing in the same spot each time. Yes, give that a try and let's see what happens.

Those two are RS.

David

EDIT:

OK I did the first application update.
It restarted OK.
Then offered me the same app update as before through HOME.

I chose BACK, then clicked the blue button, then checked it was safely removed.
Unplugged the USB.
The "select language" screen was looking at me, so I chose English, then right handed, then miles, then.... ok ok ok you get the picture.

It froze on the set time screen.

Hmmmm....... no-one got any ideas then?

Looks like it's borked, doesn't it?

I think I've tried everything, though it is possible I missed something.

There are certainly 13 less folders in the new application than were in the original backup I made, but that's maybe due to the data that the TT unit accumulates during use, right?

Either way, I am hoping that this thread doesn't just die......

Help!

I don't think so.... The numbers of folders on the device usually stays pretty constant. There might be a few files added INSIDE some of the folders after some use, but not new folders.
THIRTEEN less sounds way too few (or alternatively you had way too many before!)
Can you list them? (I would list mine, but I don't have any non-LIVE models in front of me at the moment and they all have text-to-speech voices too, so the folder structure would be quite a bit different.

Maybe someone with a similar model to yours could have a peruse....

Sure Andy, would be happy to......

These are listed from the original backup I made using Explorer, and ONLY the folders are listed, there are some loose files too.

There you go.

Has anyone at NASA gotten closer to my solution yet?

David, I have had a similar situation (unless yours is a hardware issue), and indeed I found that the sequence of doing things was important with my One XL which had frozen after a map update attempt.

If you feel up to trying it all again, ah, you could check TT's sometimes helpful link here . Check under the section "other devices" and confirm - have you done parts (1) and (2) in the recommended order?

Thanks for the advice alfie, it is greatly appreciated that anyone reads all this and suggests something to try, as I have certainly run out of ideas!

Unfortunately, the process you referred to is one of the things I did before I came to the forum, joined and asked for help!

I made sure to follow the steps to the letter, as I had read a few things on here about being sure to do that, along with disconnecting properly etc.
In fact, I do believe there will still be a folder on the hard drive of my pc somewhere called "TomTomold" just like the page suggests.

The problem is, the TT unit was never updated or attached to HOME to create the issue in the first place. It just started doing what it does, all by itself one day.

I am beginning to believe that it may just be a hardware issue and that it can't be solved without some new drive, chip, memory, or a large brick.

:D

I think I may have started a red herring there....:tape:

I'm forgetting that there are a lot of things which won't get replaced if you format and re-download the application software.
Less important folders such as raster (the satellite pictures you get if you zoom out fully) and "home images" may not get restored, but I did think MOST of the folders would be created even if they turn out to be empty.

Not to worry Andy.

I'll try any angle at the minute, as I am completely stuck.

Unless it's the hardware, in which case a good drop from a calculated height may just end the thread.

What is the optimum for height to drop from for a "system reset" ?

Alternatively, can anyone suggest anything that has NOT been tried yet?

Many thanks for all your concerted time and effort everyone.

BUMP!!!!!!

Just one last effort before I decide to throw it in the bin...

Anyone got any ideas?

HELP TTForums!!!!!

PLEASE

lol

Sell it on eBay for parts? There's always someone with a cracked screen somewhere.

OK guys!

Thanks for all your help and advice with my problem.

It's a shame we couldn't get to the bottom of it while I was here, and if I ever do solve the issue, I will certainly let you know.

I would like to say how nice it was to get such prompt responses, and of course, suggestions on how to tackle the fault, without any troll posts or detrimental responses at all.

Makes a nice refreshing change from a lot of forums you can visit these days.

Like I said, just a shame we couldn't work out my bug.

Anybody here want to buy a formatted TT with an IQ (routes) of at least 104!!!!??
