I cannot help you but, does your Start connects to the PC with HOME or MyDrive Connect?
Which operating system are you running.

I'm not sure what you mean. My tablet has the latest version of Windows and I just hook it up with USB cord

You are using the Windows software (as opposed to Apple).
Your TomTom Start must connect with the Servers in Amsterdam to get updated.
The software to connect must be installed in your Windows system.
Download from here and install if there are no numbers in the name after Start.
