TomTom service

My 920 arrived and is (as expected) a refurbed unit with a 6 month warranty. I could not change device type on my existing account, so I created a new account. I was able to add the desired voice from my backup of my 910 and have an SD card with many hours of music installed. I'm satisfied with TomTom's response to my 910's problem. I'll need to get a case for the 920, but that's a trivial issue.

TUKATZ,
From the day you dropped off your TomTom at the FedEx store to be shipped to TomTom for repair, how long did it take to get it back?

I'm shipping mine out tomorrow, and I'm concerned it won't be back in time for the trip I'm taking the week of Thanksgiving.

I don't think you'll have it back in time for your trip.

No problem. Keep in mind that no matter what screen you are on, if you tap that area, it will take a screen shot. Even if you are at the menu screen, tap the area, and it will take a pic :)

Hmmm.. and in order to zoom back out you have to touch the screen somewhere else and hit DONE.

Okay, I can see a purpose for this function but not permanantly. I'll undo mine for right now and wait for a time I might need it.

Or am I mising something ( again... )

WHO knows where I can get the thing repaired? I have the 2008 maps, and from the above garner getting a used one off ebay or Amazon is still going to make me less than happy. They are on Amazon for $168 plus shipping, possibly not much less than I'd pay for a repair.

ANY comments/feedback/recommendations would be appreciated!
Gerry,

Just came across this SERVICE company. Says they repair screens. I think they are in the UK.

Filling out a questionaire on their web page cost nothing

I contacted them earlier and they said they only serviced broken LCD's for Great Britain customers. No others. Don't get that one?? It was flat rate though, and about $175 U.S.

This is a little newer website though. It does not have the exact same content but their 'don't repair it yourself mate' statement is the same as on the other website. Wonder if they were a partnership and now the partners have split ways?

I will fill out their contact form for sure!

Thanks!!!!

Non-Warranty Support

I called TomTom this morning, 11 AUG 2007, to ask how to get support for my GO 920T, which is is 20 months old. I was told by the service representative that TomTom only provides service for products that are under warranty. This leaves me in a dilemma since my device shuts off after the battery is exhausted, even when the device is connected to my car charger. Any suggestions on how to get someone to look at it?

Call again and get a different CS agent. I have not encountered that response and my unit is 2 years old.

As neat as these new devices are (I have the 930), you might be interested in TomTom service and repair "policy" as I have found it.

If it is in warranty and IF it has not been damaged, then you might get it repaired.

If you damage it and want to pay to have it repaired, or the battery fails out of warranty, do not expect anything from TomTom .

Maybe it is just me, but I never imagined that a new product would not be repaired by the manufacturer.

This is my second, and last, TomTom. I cannot afford to pay nearly $500 for an item that TomTom will not repair. Even if I could afford it, I will not.

There seems to be at least one US third party that will do repairs, but not TomTom.
