TomTom One
I found that after a charge my TomTom battery was not holding a charge for more than a few days so I ordered a new battery and installed it. Well, the new battery is showing the same problem. After charging and waiting a few days my TomTom One will not turn on because the battery is discharged. Anyone else with this issue?

I was away for two weeks earlier this month and left my tomtom at home with a fully charged battery. On my return it was almost dead, so I suspect there must be some current draw even when the unit is off.

When the unit is 'off', it really isn't. Think of it like today's modern electronic stuff like a tv. You turn the power button off and the unit is really in a standby mode so that the 'instant on' works when you power up again. Same with the TomTom. The 'power' button is more of a 'standby' or (to use a pc term) 'hibernate' mode. So, it still draws some power, just not the full amount --- or it's not supposed to draw the full amount in that mode.

Similar issue with 920 remotes.....'Off' isn't really off and, as a consequence, some users are finding remote battery life is dreadful.

Oh yeah, two weeks, I thought you were saying two days, yeah, two weeks could leave the batteries dead, or close to it. Heck, all it takes is two hours to kill 'em if you have the screen bright and the sound on.

I just learned of a new trick to really put the TT to sleep and modify the standby status. I have yet to try it but others have tried it with success.

You need to create a zero byte file of "poweroff" (without the quotes) and put it in the root of the TT system. This means that when you power off your device, it will not be in standby mode and really shut off.

This is best done in NotePad... Just open, don<t write anything and save it with name of poweroff. You will need to remove the .txt extention and move it to the root directory.

Make sure you do NOT leave the USB ended car charger plugged into the unit while its off and sitting around. Some voltage must backfeeed, Ive found that leaving mine hooked up, even for a few days is a sure fire way to run the battery into the ground.

Don't know about that! I have my XL-S plugged to the computer's USB since January and the battery indicator is right up there. My computer is turned off about 7 hours a day. When the TT is not in the car, it is on linked to the computer.

Tried it... It doesn't do anything. Do you have more info?

As you now may have noticed, adding the zero-byte file "poweroff" does nothing to force the TomTom to go into the powered-off "boot" state.

It's possible there is more to the story. Can you point us at the source of your information?
