Tomtom live sim lifetime 6200 expires

I would suggest that the contract you made with Tomtom when you bought the device was for them to provide lifetime traffic updates via the internal sim card. As is mentioned in there technical specification (certainley for the Go6200). If they withdraw that service they could be in breach of contract in my opinion.

It seems your TomTom Live SIM for the 6200 model is nearing its expiration, and you're likely wondering about renewal options. Consider contacting TomTom support to confirm whether the "lifetime" services can be extended or if a new SIM or subscription is needed. They might offer a special plan or upgrade path to maintain live traffic and other connected services for uninterrupted navigation.
"Services", "Updates" and the availability of a 2G cellular connection have nothing to do with each other for a 6200 TomTom. Service and updates can be managed in other ways.

I may email tomtom as I have 3x 6200 in our home and have no idea when it gets switched off. I can still have live traffic and speed cameras I think via Bluetooth. And hopefully map updates too. If not they will be decommissioned and it's upto my sales team if they want to pay for services as they cannot claim these expenses back. Do you know if I still get all live services free but via Bluetooth???

Absolutely no mention of a 7 year or so term

Just wondering when I have to connect my SatNav to my IPhone for traffic updates via Bluetooth, will I still be able to stream music to my car radio via Bluetooth at the same time. .

Not sure how many different threads I can repeat this in, but I'll keep trying...

For many devices (yours included) there IS an option to get traffic data from phone to TomTom via WiFi rather than using Bluetooth. Why people are so obsessed with the Bluetooth traffic connection is something I've never understood, especially on iOS where the connection has been notoriously wonky.

I have used Tomtom devices for decades and when I buy one for myself I get my wife and son one, with them having a SIM card there is not one “new” Tomtom can device that has the built in SIM card but quite expensive units with a £35 per year subscription or monthly etc
I can’t see me buying any other devices from Tomtom I think the service when it stops I can use Bluetooth to connect but if Tomtom can verify this I will be grateful if I have to pay I will have to look elsewhere

Tomtom when my 6200 unit SIM cards go off can I use all the services I currently get free but over Bluetooth? Or will I be switched off until I pay an annual tariff TIA
Used my 6200 tonight and live services are off after the map update, brilliant and to cap it off the 6200 keeps resetting and returning to a hospital I navigated to the last time I used it. I reset the unit alsi tethered on Bluetooth and even on WiFi and it kept resetting stopping blue screening. Same on my wife's 6200. I will complain to tomtom and I have original box etc so will look into lifetime ending after a few years surely they should compensate live sim users with free services as an option if they can get my units to work after this update. It's like buying an apple product which gets slower and kills the battery on every update. This crap happened after I updated my maps which say 05/24 so not even up to date. I will kick off with Tomtom tomorrow and post result on here. I can very easily drop 35 tomtom live units in a heartbeat and if I speak to our distributors the drivers can get non tomtom units. This sim rubbish has pushed me too far, this will cost tomtom a fortune.

Yes you are correct Canderson, l just realised that I do use the WiFi option on my IPhone to connect to my SatNav. Thanks for reminding me, my fault but I am an Old Bugger (79) well that’s my excuse. Lol

I shouldn't think it will occur until the provider that TT is using shuts down their 2G service. That's the thing - it's not a question of when the last man standing is providing 2G there, it's when TT's provider (Vodafone) shuts down 2G.

So far, who's doing what when is entirely up in the air, with only the 2033 date hanging out there as the 'final final' date. Due to the way bandwidth is being re-used, it was easier to predict 3G shutdowns!

United Kingdom
  • EE – Closing before December 2033
  • Vodafone UK / Three UK – Closing before December 2033
  • O2 – Closing before December 2033

According to Streetwave, in the UK Vodafone is likely to continue with 2G for many years longer than most countries. Seems most countries lose Vodafone 2G in Dec 2025 but the CEO indicated it may be closer to the deadline of 2033 in the UK.

If Vodafone 2G has a lot longer to run in the UK can I assume the TomTom will also have for UK use on Vodafone SIM? Had a brief flash message on the device that when the SIM licence ends it will be necessary to use Bluetooth. No email. Like others, Bluetooth on my vehicle is already in use to control car music, etc.

Maybe because the message on TomTom says you will need to use Bluetooth. It didn't mention WiFi hotspot!

In my opinion, Tomtom anticipates the end of 2G in some countries for France.
According to the mobile operator, the end is for December 2025

For the moment, if the integrated SIM card still works, there is no need to worry.

I just changed my 6200 settings, printed out the instructions, they set things up differently, I already new how to set up a hot spot, but this is done differently, so with the sheet of paper, I set my Samsung S24 to provide a Bluetooth connection, but I had to use the phones search to find what they said would be next, Bluetooth tethering wasn't directly available in the main settings menu. Once I found it, just a matter of setting the phone to allow connections to the internet via Bluetooth, and it sits there waiting.

Then I switched on the 6200 and selected Bluetooth, then add phone, it found my S24 and asked me to pair on the phone and on the Tomtom 6200, now it's using the phones internet connection.

Originally, with 5 routers, Tomtom was on another WiFi, now it's on the same WiFi as the phone, Tomtom transfers for updates were always slow, 72mb or something silly, took ages to update Ireland and UK a d part of Europe, now it might take even longer, need to try it in a few days when there's an update.

When we bought our TT6200 etc it was in the reasonable expectation that TomTom would honour its adverstising which offered Traffic information for life using the internal sim card.
I believe we should insist that TT honour this comittment
