TomTom GO 530 firmware 8.3 problems and SD max size

Hey.

I am portguese so my english may be not the best, sorry about that.

I bought that model, a GO 530, and it is the first time I have contact with a GPS. My tomtom came with Navcore 8.3* and a Iberia map V825.2157. Everything was working fine but I connect it to my PC to find more thing I could do with TomTom Home. TomTom Home asked me to update the device and i said yes. After that two functions stopped working.

No I can't transmit voices over FM, only music, (menu disappeared) and ALG menu came gray and I am not able to click on it.

If you can't understand my english please say. I want to resolve these problems. If i can't resolve them I have to return my TomTom.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Is it compatible with SDHC?

Firmware 8.3 took away the functionality of having fm navigation broadcasting. We are hoping for a firmware upgrade to bring that functionality back.

As to the ALG. If you had it for your map previously, it should still be capable of handling it with a firmware update. Try doing a pin reset.

And your English is fine...

I solved ALG problem.

So the FM problem is a firmware problem... I searched on the internet about that and I read other things. I read on a forum that there is "Navcore 8.4", or as you say, "Firmware 8.4". I download it but i think that is suposed to update firmware by TomTom Home so I didn't try update.
So the question is: will 8.4 fix?

Thanks!

Just curious how you solved the ALG problem.

The Navcore version you could have downloaded was designed specifically for TomTom Ones wih 2 gigs of memory; further, you could not have gotten it from TomTom but from a warez site (hacked software).

My STRONG suggestion is NOT to try to install it. Not only may you cause damage to your unit but you sure will NOT get any help from TomTom support.

I'd suggest waiting like the rest of us for a legitimate application update that restores fm functionality. rumour has it that it'll be released soon........

That was what I thoght the program wasn't oficial or it was warez so I choose not install it.

Also on some foruns where I read about firmware 8.4 I find a table that shows what "things" come with maps. What I could understand is that not all maps have ALG, voice recognition or IQRoutes. Table shows that versions 825.2157 of maps have ALG, voice recognition and IQRoutes. So I went to confirme the version of original map that I had make backup and it was v825.2157.
What happened was that when I update the map it updated to v825.2159. That's de solution, use older version.
If you want I can post the table but I think that is a table from a warez web site... :S

EDIT:
I have another question... What is maximum size or type of SD on this model? Is it compatible with SDHC?

EDIT2: https://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom...transmitter-doesnt-work-720-8-3-firmware.html

Some people says that FM will not be able again because some kind of US law. But I am in Portugal and we have some legal devices witch broadcast FM...
I don't know... But one of the points that makes me chose this model was the FM transmitter lol

It's an EU law, NOT a US law that stopped transmission on fm.

I know that if you have firmware 8.3+, you can have a sdhc card GREATER than 4 gigs on the 7x and 9x series of models. We don't have a 530 model in North America so I'm not 100% sure but it probably should take an sdhc card.

Mm.. Thanks about sdhc.

You're right, EU. I said US because United States Of America in portugues is "Estados Unidos da America" so I read EU as "Estados Unidos" :p

But why FM is available for music and not for navigation? I will wait for more firmwares.

The Fm facility has been removed from the TomToms for the time being, its turns out that a little EU legislation was looked over by accident... For something to transmit an FM signal it needs to be transmitting something EG a noise, info or date BUT with the TomTom it only transmits every now and again.. Well it seems this is illegal and it has had to be removed until they can sort it out..There is a work around but it would mean you will need to downgrade the current software on the TomTom, ring the support up and you should be able to find someone to send you instructions on how to do this

Have Fun

DOH just noticed the other postys... not EU country lol sorry.....<switches to USA mode > Firmware should sort it. The 530s are known to have this issue so a quck chat with the customer support should help you as well

Have fun

530 will work fine with an SDHC type memory card up to and including 32GB capacity (thats a lot of music) I use 16GB cards from Peak in my units as they are class 6 (the higher the class number the faster the card - 6 being the highest available) and the Peak cards are reasonably priced.

As for the FM Tx for navigation voices I would sit this one out, it should be possible to route the Nav voice via FM Tx IF you have the mp3 player routed via the FM option at some future point (new Navcore release at some point) - his has been hinted at by TT CS in a number of posts I have read on other GPS related forums. If you don't want music playing then you can load a silent mp3 track and play that to overcome the restriction once this stupid European directive has been overcome - time to wait for a new Navcore release.

I posted some detailed instruction on another forum quite some time ago that took people through how to download and roll back the Navcore to 8,010 to get the missing FM Tx functions working, the downside to using this "fix" means you need a copy of the v815 maps for your device in order for it to work - thus running older release maps - I can post the same instructions here if you think they would be of use, but I think waiting for a true fix and being able to use the latest maps might be the easy option? - Mike
