We took our 910 to Europe this past summer and found that it makes alert noises. The speed limits are displayed for most significant roads and the 910 would chime at us if I exceeded the speed limit by more than a few KPH. It took a bit of time to realize the 910 was doing this as there are no speed limits in the mapping of North American roads - at least none I have seen. Then we started hearing a higher pitched and more urgent noise. We eventually figured out that it was the 910 warning us of speed cameras.

We used a tomtom one in Australia a couple of weeks ago and it, too, warned of cameras in Melbourne. More a two-tone chirp than a high pitched sound but the warnings can be user selected, I thunk.
