For the life of me, I cannot see how to synchronize a route created on mydrive.tomtom.com to my Rider 550 as a route instead of a track. It's my understanding that a minor deviation from a route won't cause the Rider 550 to try to send you back to the point of deviation, but will instead send you to the nearest point on the route. Unfortunately, the only way that I can get things from My Routes to the Rider 550 device is to synchronize it as a track.

Can someone please tell me the secret? Thanks.

When you are in the "Edie Route" use the "Send Stops" button.
Thanks for your help, but I'm afraid this doesn't work as desired. When I edit the route and use Send Stops it arrives on my Rider 550 as a new destination (with a verbal announcement), but appears as a round trip even when the Round Trip flag on the MyDrive web site is not enabled. Additionally, it doesn't appear as route on the device -- I still see the dotted arrow, indicating a track route. What am I doing wrong?

After much trip and error, I’ve solved the problem. Here’s a synopsis:
1. As indicated by @raesewell, above, plot the route using some waypoints and use “Send Stops” from the MyDrive website or app. Include an extra waypoint very close to the start of the route.
2. After receiving the destination on the Rider550, find the first waypoint near the start of the route and long press (> 1 second) that location. A three-button menu appears. Open that menu and select “Use this as starting point”.
3. Tap any point on the route to open another thee-button menu and select Manage Routes. You can use one of the options here to name and save the route. It will then appear as a route (not a track) in My Routes.

Why does TomTom use such an opaque methodology for this? It seems quite awkward.
