start up options

Much as it may pain TomTom to discover, it is not the most important thing in my life. Additionally, I do know how to start programs running.

So why does TomTom Home insist on starting on boot-up. Not only is it totally uncessary it actually helps slow the boot-up sequence.

So how do I stop it loading on start-up. I can't find it in services.

Not a lot you can do about this other than right click the icon in the tray (lower right) on the PC and shut it down after its started, there used to be an option to disable it from loading on start up of the PC but they got rid of that claiming it was an "improvement"

To be honest I would rather not have the useless software on my PC at all, the number for you to phone up to complain about Home loading up is 0845 161 0009 although I doubt you will get anywhere - Mike

I guess I'm missing something here. My version of Home (2.7.4.1962) does not have the option to start when the computer is turned on, agreed, but it does NOT start at bootup.

It does have an option (under tools-->Preferences in Home) to start when the unit is connected to the computer. But I have that unchecked, so it doesn't.

So you don't have the TomTom icon in the lower right tray bar on the computer? (you might have to expand it to see the hidden icons), there used to be an option to prevent it from starting at Boot up of the PC but this was removed ages ago, the full application doesn't start but the program is running hence the icon in the tray - Mike

Honestly, Mike.....

The program does not start on boot up and there is no icon in the notification area. I only start it with the shortcut on the desktop. I agree that once it does start, I must shut it by exiting the icon that THEN appears (when started) in the notification area.

Perhaps a look at Start-->msconfig-->startup will show you that it does start. Just uncheck the row and restart the computer.

ugg - expanded my icons on Windows 7 toolbar and noticed it is there. I had unchecked it via the msconfig screen not long ago. That is how I normally do these things ... start .... type in msconfig in search field and then look under start up and uncheck all that is not needed. I wonder if the damned thing re checked itself .... hmmmm

Every time a new version of Home gets installed (there was a new one a couple of weeks ago), the bloody program, by default, always has the Start when computer boots up checked. You always have to uncheck that in Tools-->Preferences.
