I just updated to the latest App for this one 140s, 9.541, and now it won't go past start up screen. I tried to do another up date, in case something is missing, but it says "no updated available". I deleated the new App and did it again, same thing. So I put the old app back on, now it says" no map found". What should I do now?

You must have a backup of your GPS on the computer reinstalled this backup.

FYI your One 140 is no longer supported by Tomtom so if you have not made a backup you cannot reinstall a map from Tomtom Home.

I just got it, so I don't have a backup up on it yet. But TT Home says both the App snd Map is on the device. So I think the problem is in the start up/ boot software. I do have a backup of my One 125. Can I just make a clone and copy everything to the the new 140?

Could there be a compatability problem between the App and the map that's on the device?

NO! Please don't do that. The firmware is different, and the maps are keyed to your individual devices and won't run on any but the original device for which the map was generated.

Let's first have you back up your 140 per this article > https://www.tomtomforums.com/thread...-to-the-computer-and-how-to-restore-it.17864/

It's positively critical that you have or can find on your PC a copy of a map originally created for your 140 -- NOT your 125. I REALLY hope that the reason your device is saying "No maps found" isn't because you've already copied over your map with a map from the 125.

According to "Home", the map (version 860.3121, 1668mb) and application (9.541, 13.4 mb) are on the device, and they should be right for this One 140s. But still won't go past the start screen after an hour or more. It should be going to the legal disclaimer screen by now. I tried doing an update, but the only thing it's offering is a quick GPS fix. I did backup the map and application using Home. I want to do a complete backup using windows explorer, but I couldn't figure out how to create a new file. Is there a way to force it past the start image?

Very easy to make a backup with Windows copy/paste all your GPS files and systems folder displayed into a folder on the computer.

Your One is no longer tracked by Tomtom, so avoid connecting your GPS to Tomtom Home.

Indeed, 9.541 is correct.
Meanwhile, you do appreciate that the 860 map dates back to December of 2010, yes?

If, by getting the firmware back to the right level, you can now get past the "No Maps Found" problem (you didn't say), and are just back to not being able to get a full boot, I'd like you to try this:

In your USA or North_America or similarly named map folder, look for a file called mapsettings.cfg. Make a copy of that somewhere on your PC and delete that file from your 140. Restart your 140 and see if it gets through the boot screen after that.

Yes, I can deal with the older map, I don't even know if a newer one is available. Update didn't offer one before this happened. With the 9.541 app I don't immediately get the " no map found ", it just gets stuck on the start image. I'll try your idea tonight. Thank you.

Tomtom Home will never offer you an update for your GPS map that is too old.

No difference. Deleted mapsettings, restarted device, still stuck on startup screen. Tried another update, but all it offered was a new gpsfix. Is there a way to manually download a new 9.541 application? Or, what else would you suggest? (Oh, I put the mapsettings file back on, since removing it didn't help)

Also, the only way to shut it off is with a hard shut down, like a hard boot. Is that a clue?

Before deleting app 9.541 did you make a backup as asked?

If so you can delete the application on your GPS is on your computer then reconnect your GPS to Tomtom Home which will ask you to reinstall the application.

Perhaps your map is too old to work with this application?

Tried this again. Updated after removing Application, and Home didn't offer a new one. So I had to put the old 9.541 back on. Still stuck on start up image.

In my opinion, if Tomtom Home does not offer you to download the application again, it is because you should not have deleted the application from the Tomtom folder on your computer?

Do you have the old app, try reinstalling it to see if your GPS works properly again.

Yes, I reinstalled the old 9.541 App, and it's doing the same thing. Stuck on start up image. Everything looks like it should work, but it doesn't. All I did was back up the 9.541 app, delete it from the device using Home, did an update using Home, which offered app 8.415. Installed that, which resulted in " no map found ". So I removed 8.415 using Home, and reinstalled my backup 9.541. Rebooted device, still stuck on startup image.

What I find confusing is that 8.415 comes up with "No map found" and 9.541 gets stuck during boot. It's not like the maps changed in format between those builds. I'm beginning to wonder what builds Home is offering / has offered for 9.541. That number applies to more than one device's firmware, and they're not the same.

One thing for sure -- if your device has an 8.415 build on it, and you connect to home, 9.541 should automatically be offered to deal with the GPS week number rollover problem from a couple of years ago. If not, you're going to eventually have issues with the device not knowing what time it is, among other things.

Looking back, 8.415 was released for both the One, One+ and OneXL hardware, so at least that's a valid build number. Prior to the 9.541 WNRO release, that was the most recent available for your device.

If it were me, I wouldn't connect to Home, I would copy and paste the application and save the map on the computer from before the last update via Home and check if the GPS works again.

You mean, copy the 9.541 app from Home, and reinstall it manually instead of using Home? I hadn't thought of that.

Ugh... finally waking up to what's happening here.

It's very likely NOT possible to bounce back and forth between the 8.xxx and 9.xxx code. It's likely that along with the firmware, a new bootloader was included with the 9.541 firmware that won't play well with 8.xxx firmware. Once a bootloader version is advanced, there's nothing you can do about it. It's a one way journey.

On your PC, check your version of the 9.541 *.cab file to see if it contains BOTH a "system" and "ttsystem" file. The former is the bootloader. The latter is the firmware. If you double click on a *.cab file, you'll discover that it's actually a *.zip in disguise and you can see the contents.

Your downloads are probably going to C:\Users\{yourusername}\Documents\TomTomUpgrade\HOME\Download\complete
