not enough space to update maps - please help

*edit* just saw your last post Andy...thanks for clearing that up for me. I will purchase a 2GB card from tomtom's site and hope for the best.

Which one of the last ones? I do tend to decide to add more stuff as soon as I've posted!

As for buying from TomTom.. Whoa! No need to pay TomTom's extortionate prices!
2GB non-HD SD cards are easy to find! It's only the 4GB ones that are rather tricky.

The post I'm talking about is the one where you explained how to update to the new card.

Also thanks for the tip about tomtom's prices...just saw it's €20 for a 2GB card from them

Okay guys I'm back again and I'm a little unhappy at this stage.

I ordered a 2GB SD card from tomtom last week and it finally arrived today so I popped it in to my go710 and installed all content from my previous card onto this new card.....Everything went well....

I checked to see if tomtom was working after my backup and yes it was so I decided to install the maps which I already paid €75 for......

After backing up to my new card I have 970MB free space on it so I thought the maps I bought would break up into zones...they did not!!

I downloaded the maps twice using up 3.2GB of my internet cap and still it does not work...

PLEASE help me to get this working or I will obviously have to get a full refund from tomtom which I don't want to have to do...I just want my sat nav to work..Thanks for your help and time and here is the error that displayed both times (also I disabled my AV while this was working and still it didn't work)

Did you you a wireless connection when you got the file? That often corrupts the download.

You can try installing manually:
https://www.tomtomforums.com/t18197-how-install-downloaded-map-without-using-home.html

Not a wireless connection dhn...I am however using a 3g dongle and have a 5Mb download speed with it.

I have also tried copying the map manually but winrar displayed an error "unknown file or format"

also seeing as though I need the old maps on the SD card before updating I don't see how it will fit because it isn't breaking into zones for me....The new maps are 1.8GB

Is there any way I can delete my current maps and update the new 1.8GB of new maps? Everything I try to do results in failure.

Finally after all this time I have managed to install the maps and tomtom has been updated.

Where I went wrong was backing up my old card to my new card there was no need to do this!!

I removed the backed up data and formatted my new card, then I installed basics first like firmware and quick gps fix etc then the new map..

When I turned on the tomtom for the first time after the update it said "no maps found" but I got around that by saving everything from the SD card, including the hidden files (using Explorer), formatted the card, and copied all the files (except the map) from the unit to the SD. Then went and updated the map again using home and it worked.

Thanks to all involved and this discussion can be closed if needed...thanks.
