TomTom Model(s)
Go Discover
Hi, I am having trouble to connect my tomtom discover 7 with MyDrive Connect on windows 11. Everything was working in the past but I didn't use the windows MyDrive connect app/software for a long time. When starting again tonight he was asking for a update and after that I am unable to connect my device.

Did install/uninstall it multiple times. Tom Tom MyDrive Connect 4.4.0.5040. My Discover 7 is connected with WIFI and I am on my Discover 7 device also logged in thru MyDrive account (all is written connected). I only have one TOMTOM account that I use for everything.

When starting up MyDrive Connect on my windows 11 PC I log in with my tomtom account and get this:
-WELCOME!
Add your first device to use with MyDrive Connect.
(add device button)

When I connect my device thru USB with my computer something weird pops-up:
- MyDrive Connect and the device are pointing to different environments.
- Do you want to point MyDrive Connect to http://pnd-v2.dsp.tomtom-global.com/wfe/sa/ConfigurationFeed/tthcfg.xml?

I than have the choice between YES and NO. The YES option is resulting in the app closing and I am not able to start it up at all. I really have to unistall the app and install it again. (but when trying to connect again I get the same pop-up. So the YES option can not be used.

If I chose the NO option in the pop-up it brings me to this page in the MyDrive Connect app in windows:
-DO YOU WANT TO ADD THIS DEVICE?
Follow these steps on the device.
1. On the device, Go to Settings in the main Menu.
2. Tap My Drive
3. Enter an existing Tomtom Account or Create an account to Login and add the device.
4. Once successfully logged on the device, click "Continue" below.

I than click on "continue" but nothing happens only a refresh of that screen and I can click continue again. I stay stucked in this screen.

No need to install Mydrive connect for your GO Discover.

But I did had my Discovery connected (older version of mydrive connect on windows) and I could see my device and stuff with voices, and see if there where updates or not.

I know I can do everything on the device itself with wifi (map update/system update) and I am using www.plan.tomtom.com to mark and create places (and this will be synced with my account to the Discover again). When I go the tomtom site and log in with my tomtom account I do not see my device in my products (see screenshot) only my very old Go930. How do I get my Discover in my product/profile?

So if I understand with Discover you do not need (or want to use) windows MyDrive connect at all?

With Mydrive connect you can only add voices to your GPS

On Mydrive connect you will not see if you are connected to Mydrive

If you don't see your GPS on Mydrive, it means you are not connected to your Tomtom account.

I suspect there is something not 100% working with my tomtom account on my device and maybe that is the reason that MyDrive is not able to connect with the GPS and also that in my online account I do not see my go Discover gps at my products (only my very old one).

The weird part however. When I go to the TOM TOM online my route/places and add a new location than this one is direcly syncing with my Discover GPS device. So there is a working link between the online route/places/POI and my GPS device otherwise the device will not recognize the new favorite. Also the other way arround when I remove a favorite place from my GO Discover. It also is gone from the online tomtom routes/places/favorites.

Only option I didn't try yet is to factory reset my device???

It's normal Mydrive connect is Mydrive Web it's not the same thing if you can add routes and your places it's all working correctly.

This happened to a previous device I had. I deleted all content, removed the device, added it again, uploaded the map and it works well now. Might help.

-Problem solved-

I did a factory reset on my Go Discover and after the reset and setting everything up including logging in to mydrive account I was able to see my device in my online account. Also I am able to connect to the windows MyDrive app again.

If the factory reset solved your problem it is because in my opinion there must have been an account identifier problem between your GPS and Mydrive.

Hi - any suggestions as to how I can fix my On/OFF button on my TomTom Go. I fixed the map problem but now it won't turn on or off automatically. This option is ON in Settings. I have to wait for it to boot up each time I use it, and then it takes forever to stop flashing and turn itself off. Other wise it's a great little machine.

Hi
If it is indeed the button that is defective, you must already find a button on the internet or buy a broken GPS.

Then if you are able to disassemble the GPS then do some welding.

Or another solution asked Tomtom to repair it for €95

I have EXACTLY the same problems as Foxfire. I have tried it on both my HP desktop and my Asus laptop with same result. Tomtom devices are excellent - I have had several - but their support is non existent and their supporting software like Mydrive is flaky in the extreme, and I really wonder why I bother. If only Garmin devices weren't so awful! (Wasted a lot of money on one of those)

My brand new TT notified me I had 19 GB of updates. Connected to wifi, download and install went fine. TomTom KNOWS my account details, it KNOWS the details of my device (because I connected at the device) yet when I go to my account online it asks me to jump through impossible hoops (see above) to connect a device to my account. Such sloppy design should have been weeded out at the first design review, and should certainly never have made it into production. Hopefully TomTom doesn't build software for safety or security critical applications

The only plus side is that all the POIs I used to install can now be handled by smartphone, so I guess as long as map updates come via wifi successfully I need never bother with mydrive

It sounds as though we're talking at crossed purposed here, thanks to TomTom calling everything they could think of MyDrive there for a while. Here, the original discussion was about the MyDrive Connect app for the PC, which for most units these days, isn't really necessary apart perhaps from adding voices to one of the newer units. Adding your "POI" data would nominally be done through the planner on TT's web page, not MyDrive Connect, and will occur just fine over WiFi ( https://plan.tomtom.com )

That said, and most unfortunately, the Camper Max doesn't even support custom POI files like the older units did, so I assume we're talking about "Favorites". That would also be handled over the TT planner web page, and transferred to your Camper Max by WiFi as long as you're logged into the planner website with the same credentials.

Thank you - I;ve not seen that plan url before. Have tried it and it showed up on my device. Over the years POI ability has come and gone a few times. My previous, and still current 6200, has pois for LPG stations arouund Europe - useful for a camper, but there is an Android app - mylpg.eu - that will cover that. Similarly, finding aires de camping car along the route was invaluable. I shall obviously have to take both TomToms

Actually, custom POI have been available on TT units from the beginning, but your 6200 is part of the very last generation to support them. I'd hang onto it! Granted, you don't get to define your custom POI icons as was possible with units earlier than your 6200, and you can only display 5 at a time, but it's still a reasonably functional feature.

Glad you have the content moving successfully to your device.

Camper Max is preinstalled with custom POI's and tomtom once in a while gives updates to this custom POI. You can download and install these custom POI from the update section on the device.

Via plan.tomtom.com you can sync your own specific POI and favorites.

"No, on a Camper max it is not possible to synchronize our own custom POIs."

I truly wonder if the TT design team ever use their own products! I used to work for a company that provided finance to farmers. EVERY employee, on starting, was required to spend a month living and working on a farm - no exceptions - from CEO to secretary, just so they understood their customer (20 years ago - those days are long gone)

Unfortunately, many of the developers only use these devices by 'driving' their desks. And in Amsterdam, it's typically public transport and bicycles to Oosterdoksstraat 114. So no, many do not use these devices on a regular basis at all. They do have (or had) a small 'drive team', but there are far more beta testers than NL TT employees involved in daily use of these devices.
