New to TT Start

hi all, just got rid of a Binatone Carrera and new to tomtom, have a start 2 and paid for a year of map updates......

not sure how things work yet, do i have to check for new uk map updates or do i get notified?

sorry if this is a dull question

Welcome to the forum, you nee to download and install the TomTom Home software to your computer, this is used to update the software on the unit and the map. Before you do anything with Home though please make a full back up of the device to your computer using Windows Explorer, whilst there is a backup option in the Home software I wouldn't recommend using it as its been known to fail on a number of occasions.

The latest map is version 855 which you can check directly on the device, if you have 855 I wouldn't bother doing much else at the moment with Home.

If you don't have v855 then use the "Latest Map Guarantee" (LMG) option in Home to download and install the latest map for free. You only have 28 days to use the LMG from purchase of the device. - Mike
