My TomTom is now WORTHLESS! Help!

I just moved to Austin Tx earlier this week, and my TomTom has been great, except for the fact that it couldn't find any Lowes or Home Depot stores in the area despite the fact that they're all around. So last night I connected to TomTom home, performed the application and QuickFix GPS updates, and installed POI files from TomTom Home for Home Depot and Lowes. Everything appeared to be fine until today. I wanted to go to the theater to watch a movie, put the address in, and now the device couldn't find walrus if it was up the walrus' butt. It kept thinking I was on roads that were off to the side or behind me. It was doing this in areas which it hasn't had trouble in all week. How do I get these updates off my TomTom? My wife has the same unit, I haven't "upgraded" hers yet, so I'm going to try to perform a backup off of her unit and use it to restore mine. If that doesn't work, what else should I do? I've already tried holding the reset button on the bottom....

Edit: Found that I could remove stuff from the device through TomTom Home. I removed some of the POI updates and the quick GPS fix stuff and its working normally again now.

Look at the posts in this thread. http://tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=10206

Sounds like a similar issue. A solution is in the thread.

That does sound familiar. I'm a little worried about him stating that it worked fine for a while after the button reset then started being screwy again. I hope mine doesn't start to screw up again. If it does, then I guess I'll find out how to delete the application and start again. As a matter of fact, maybe I'll go ahead and try to do that now anyway (after making a backup)

Deleting the application is easy (after making your Explorer, not Home) backup.

Use Explorer and delete all the loose files in the root of the unit, NOT any folders. Start Home and check for updates. It'll see you are missing the application and download it again.

I wonder if just removing the GPSquickfix from your TomTom device would have fixed it? On my TT-3rd edition, it's the file in the 'ephem' folder called, "packedephermis.ee". If you have a different chipset, it may be a different named file.

It would take TT longer to find the satellites the first time, but at least it might work correctly. If it didn't, it's easy to put that file back... or update to the latest quickfix again thru HOME.
