Memory Card

Are the .ov2 files in the specific map folder?? They have to be to be seen.

Yeah, they are in the north america 2GB file. But they are not the problem now, IMO
It comes up on a select a map screen
"No maps found!"

Touching the screen has no effect.

When you navigate to-->poi-->see the choices for 'poi nar you', 'in city', 'near home' and select one of them (like 'near you') and arrow right, you see a list of built in categories plus your custom ov2 categories. From what I could tell from your file listing, you should see both 'beep' and 'me' as categories in this listing.

I can't navigate (picture 38) anywhere. The attached picture is all that I can get.

I tried looking at the add maps page. In home it says that my map is installed. Next try might be to delete the North_america_2gb file and then maybe it will install it.... ( I will save the file on my computer in case that it doesn't work).

Ok, now I deleted the map file. And this time it found that my map file was not there and NOW it gave me the option to add the file @ $89.95. So I tried to put it back on and now there is no room. I erased the empty space and there is still no room.
Finder says 17.9MB is free and the file is 1.64G. Yikes!

I guess that now it's tomtom's turn.
Thanks for the help anyway.

Oh, BTW I saw the tomtom race car race today at the Milwaukee Mile. Dario Franchiti. He finished 3rd....

Now I get errors when I try to restore....

I'm thinking that there is something wrong with the memory on this puppy...
So Much fun!

When you originally got the refurb 720, you should have had a map folder called north america 2gb, which contained your map.

Hopefully you have an earlier backup on it, prior to all the copying attempts done here. If not, try making a backup now (better than nothing).

Then all you need to do is format the tomtom memory, copy the map folder from backup back to the tomtom in finder, let tomtom home update and reinstall the application, then download your favorite computer voices.

Then you can copy the all the ov2 files from your xl onto the North America 2gb map folder on the 720. Don't copy other files from your one XL as they're incompatible and will cause problems.

SD card

I was under the impression that you can't put a card bigger than 2gigs. The reason being that anything 4gigs and over is considered high defenition and the 730 can't handle it.

With application 8.3 and higher, the associated bootloader allows for the Go series (7x and 9x models) to handle up to 32 gig sdhc cards.

Also, the European 520/530 support SDHC, and the 630 supports SDHC.

See here for a good reference.

Thanks, I keep forgetting that our audience is beyond NA now (and I also keep forgetting about the 630 model --- not that common).

Now I know why you never sleep, mvl. You gotta be up 24/7 just to correct my mistakes!! :p

I use 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards in the 720 and 930 with no issues at all, the only reason I don't have the 32GB card yet is down to their cost, its cheaper to have two 16GB cards, but I doubt you really need above 8GB unless you have lots of maps and a huge music collection - Mike

You don't need any thing bigger then a 4GB card, because a GPS is for maps!

True, but some of us load our MP3s onto our TomToms and play them using the FM transmitter. That's certainly why I have an 8GB card. I also store movies on the SD card so I can use Tomplayer to play them.

Another benefit of having a large SD card is to be able to store multiple maps, voices, etc.
