Before I mess something up was wondering if there was a specific way to put my map folder on an installed memory card or is it even possible and still have my Go740 still work with no problems???

Just use Explorer and copy the complete map folder to a sdhc card.

Before you do so, though, make a complete Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents,

The way your device handles the SD for the majority of its features is that it attempts to mount (ie. access) the SD card first.

So, if you have a mem card installed, it'll first look there for Maps, Music, Voices, etc., and if the resource isn't located, it'll use the default folder on the internal memory.

My One XL crapped out on me, will the SC card with my POI's that I developed on the one XL plug in into a GO 720 and work?

Yes. the *.OV2 file format is common between models. You'll need to put a copy of them into your map folder on your 720 (which can be either internal or SD).

I want to plug and play the SD card. I learned that when my 1st one crapped out on me and I lost a ton of work....

Fantastic...and I definately appreciate your help......I take it once you copy the folder to the memory card then you can delete it from the internal memory right???? And for safety sake I will do a complete backup using windows explorer before I do all this.....Thank you to everyone that responded.....

SD Card for Go730

I just purchased a TOMTOM go730 and want to load europe map 944mb, I called TomTom Support and they said to buy a 4MB SD card not SD/HC, which i can't find anywhere. I bought the 2MB SD and it doesn't have enough room even after I deleted some stuff. Getting frustrated, will 4SDHC work??? Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks

In fact, it's an example of Custom Support being wrong ..... again:(

You WANT a sdhc card and anything up to 32 gigs will work. A 4-gigger is fine for what you plan to do with it. When you have the 4 gig card installed and you start Home, it'll ask what device you want to use. Select the external (4 gig sdhc card). Purchase and install the European map on it.

When it comes time to use the map, simply goto Manage Maps-->Switch map on your device and select the European one.

I use 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards in the 720 and 930 with no issues at all, the only reason I don't have the 32GB card yet is down to their cost, its cheaper to have two 16GB cards, but I doubt you really need above 8GB unless you have lots of maps and a huge music collection - Mike

Thanks! I actually found a 4MB SD card so will try that and go from there. The customer service rep from TOMTOM told me that you CANT use anything above a 4MB card, guess that was wrong too! Thanks again, good to know you can use more than a 4MB Card if you need to.

OK, I now have my new(refirb) 720.
I have the memory card with my POIs that I developed on my One XL.

It does not see my personal POIs.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance anybody!!!!

Are the .ov2 files in the specific map folder?? They have to be to be seen.

I haven't found any .0v2 files.

I had a catagory named "mark" on the old machine with this card, and created "me" on this machine, yet I haven't found anything similular with my catagory names or anything with .0v2
I'm doing this with a mac....

Thanks again!

I'm sure that we will get this figured out...

It's one thing to create a custom poi category. For example, if I create a category called 'sample', a file called sample.ov2 is supposed to be created and placed in the specific map folder.

Then you add poi points to this sample category and the size of the ov2 file will grow in size.

Then, when you go to Manage pois-->Show on Map, all the custom categories along with the built in ones are listed. You check the ones you want to appear. If you put a checkmark besides 'sample', the points you added to that category should appear on your map.

Great, I mistakenly was working without my card in the machine. So I backed up my machine to tomtom. And tried to restore to my SD card. I got an error half way through. So now I end up with no maps anywhere. Internally, on any of my SD cards. So now the machine is useless.... Boots up. No maps found.
I'd pay for a map if I knew it would work, but with my luck $$$ spent and not working...

Your explanation is somewhat confusing ... (to me, anyway )

If you use Explorer to look at the contents of your unit, what do you see? Any folders? Any loose files?

And I understand how to transfer my .ov2's but don't know what is missing from my map files to get this thing working again.....

When you navigate to-->poi-->see the choices for 'poi nar you', 'in city', 'near home' and select one of them (like 'near you') and arrow right, you see a list of built in categories plus your custom ov2 categories. From what I could tell from your file listing, you should see both 'beep' and 'me' as categories in this listing.
