Itinerary on XXL 550-TM?

I received a new Tom Tom for Christmas and can't find a way to plan an itinerary with several stops like I could on my old GPS device. Is there a way or an up-grade to allow this?

Fix to get full menu

I tried following the instructions but did not get desired result. Any thoughts on possible changes that might be needed for my XXL 550 TM? Thanks

? Are you saying that after adding the *.mnu file specified in that thread, you do NOT get back the "Itinerary Planning" button? Did you notice any difference in available options at all?

No changes

I could not see any changes at all; just the original easy menu. If this menu script doesn't work can you recommend a model that will have itinerary planning?

If there were no changes, then either the *.mnu file didn't get copied to the right place, or didn't get copied over at all. The *.mnu solution definitely works.

As for models that allow for itineraries in a native way, just avoid all of the following models:

Ease (Start2 in Europe), XL335SE, XL335LE, XL335LM, XL350, XL350T, XL350M, XL350TM, (XL IQRoutes2 in Europe), XXL550, XXL550T, XXL550M and XXL550TM

Sorry to keep going on about this, but I don't think many users will be interested in installing a geek-type kludge in order to restore what they consider basic functionality in any GPS device, whatever the price.

An extremely serious deficiency was mentioned in the link you provided: the so-called 'help' function is no longer available. On current TT devices the 'help' function is the only means of finding out one's current location. Bearing in mind the quality of their current designs it is highly probable that TT don't understand that if you have an accident away from home the first thing you want to know is where you are.

Yes, the 540 model, being one with a full menu structure, DOES have Itinerary Planning.

You can save essentially an unlimited number of itineraries. Each itinerary is permitted a max of 48 waypoints.

Thanks for your help.

So, up to now. This is the winner. I owned right now a Garmin 205w, but It?s time to made un upgrade to have different features.

Waiting to new models announced to be available in mid 2011. On my next trip to US will be on my cart.

Thanks for your help. Very appreciated.

You are welcome.

Do NOT consider a 2405 or 2505 model when you visit the States unless you check someplace (like here! :D ) to make sure the current issues with those models are resolved ...

The 540 is a pretty nice device, all things considered, right now.

Take that for sure.

This is an awesome forum. With excellent data and fastest response. I will be on USA on Feb 2, looking for the best deal to get my 540.

Yust one doubt, 540Tm and 540TM World Edition are exactly the same, nor the WE has 4gb om memory.??

The TM has only 2 gigs of memory and holds just the North American map. The 540 WTE has 4 gigs and comes with both North_American AND Western_Europe......

But things to remember:
1. If you get a 'lifetime map update' on a 540 WTE, it ONLY includes North America, not Europe (though you get the LMG)
2. A map update for Europe will NOT fit on the unit. You'll only be able to fit a European zone on the unit and then, if you need another zone, you'd achieve that by Home's Manage my Device, device link, maps, click on the map icon and you'll see a 'change zone' link for the European map.

OK, Very clear.

I?m looking for extra space in case I need to upload maps from Argentina.

Up to now, only need USA full updates (Traffics and Maps) and the extra space.

Not completly understand when you said " though you get the LMG". Not following what is LMG, sorry.

Latest Map Guarantee...........

Ensuring you get the (then) current map within 30 days of purchasing the unit.

For example, you said you'd be in the States in February. Well, map 865 is due in February but probably not till mid month or so.

Well, as long as you gto for the LMG within 30 days of purchase, you should be able to get the 865 North American map.

I'm suddenly second guessing myself if the LMG also applies to the european map, I know lifetime map updates do NOT.

Ok Found it

Dbn, I choose the 540TM WE basically for his 4gb.

No need on Europe Map.

Can I use the GPS direct from the box or I need to connect to TT.

Since this is my first TT and I?m on holidyas, I don?t want any issue that make me to have to contact TT CSupport.

I'd feel better if you made an Explorer, not Home, backup prior to doing anything but if there is no computer access while you are on holidays, that's out.

Also, for any unit, it should be charged 2-4 hours (normally by connecting via usb cable to computer) prior to first use.

So, yes, you can use it out of the box but make sure you do use the car charger included with the unit.

:)Yes, first thing I will do is a Explorer backup. I carry my netbook with me. Also I guess I have internet access at the hotel.

Ok. I have in mind to purchase a charger to this unit.

Ok.

Thanks for all

HI dbn

Since until now I?m a garmin boy I was messing around with my gdb file fromnext holidays.

I convert my gdb ( routes and wp) to the TT .itn format.

I dont have with me my recently acquire xxl54otm. Hope he is waiting to me on destination.

Finally my quiestion is, where are itineraries stored on the TT.
I'm able to copy my .itn from PC to device and used it.

Of course, if conversion goes well.

Regards
T -3 to holidays
