IQrouting on 720?

That would be nice but doubtful as it was just introduced in the new 730, 930. Right now it seems like TT is removing features from the 720 with new firmware updates rather than adding features.

I hear ya, I had the VR working perfect then the firmware update killed it. I tried to restore, that failed and then I ended up getting it all gaffed up, had to do a full reformat. After 2 days on the phone I get it back. Hopefully the iQroutes will be coming to the 720.

Regarding the VR not working after upgrade, I actually asked this as a direct
question to TomTom helpdesk and got the following answer:

"Response (Alexander T. (SE)) 25/03/2008 08.30 AM
Dear customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

This is a problem that we already know about and it will be solved in the next
version. I can unfortuntatly not say when it will be available but hopefully it
will be shortly.

<some extra stuff about how to revert to old version, snippet removed>

We are sorry for the problem.

Best regards

I'm running TomTom 720T with WesternEurope 7.05 map (original shipped)

The new firmware was NOT supposed to kill VR on European 720's such as yours. The NA 720's were never meant to have VR in the first place.

I have a feeling the software engineers at TT are struggling with the code to allow (again) VR for European models while STILL keeping it disabled for NA models.

Actually, I just got a TomTom Newsletter that said both IQ routing and lane guides will be available on my device.

Yes. My quote was not meant to stir up a flame, but rather inform what was
said from the helpdesk. for information only to other TT720 owners. :)

I really find it hard to believe with all that is going on here with the latest upgrades that anyone would believe that they will be making a free upgrade to this new option that is basically their selling feature of the latest models

Except everone will need to upgrade to maps that work with the feature. How do you think printer companies make their money?(hint: think ink cartridges  )

what is iqrouting and was the update a mistake by tomtom are they planing to fix it thanks I am pissed at tomtom releasing that update.

i would have agreed with you previously but since the new v7.20 free map upgrades do not include cspeech files, it leads me to believe that it is deliberate.

Same can be said about v8 maps. If you notice the size differences between 920/930 maps, they are around 75mb smaller for 920. Which means they can remove the IQ routing and still sell you v8 maps, or just can disable IQ routing all together on the next navcore for all devices but x30 series.

Giving tomtom recent behaviour, I think they have turned into a map selling, take your money any which way company which is sad. But at the end of the day its about profits and shares.

Bingo! ...but that's only part of the story. From what I've seen, they're a SaaS (Software as a Service) company. That includes maps, but also traffic, gas prices, weather, etc. services. It's a longshot to make RouteIQ available as a free upgrade, but they could sell their userbase RouteIQ as a premium upgrade or a subscription service without disrupting their business model.

Can confirm IQ-Routes available on 720.

Hello,

I have now installed the 8.10 Western Europe map on a 720 with 8.010 SW
and have tried the Advanced Lane Assistance on Stockholm, Sweden.

I also managed to confirm that IQ-Routes seems to be available
on 8.010 firmware + 8.10 maps on at least European 720 model.

And also this is new when IQ-Routes enabled and you pre-plan a route.
