Inconsistent routing

2: Has anyone else experienced this behavior on their TomToms?

:confused:
I have experienced it too. I was on the final leg of my trip back home; normally it's "at the end of [a long] road, turn left", then "turn right"; for some kinky reason, my XL wanted me to make a left-turn somewhere in the middle of the long road and tried to reroute me through a maze of narrow streets. Couldn't tell why... the only thing I noticed that day was that I was still driving in the right lane (I usually enter the left lane ASAP, but that day I simply hadn't able to do so).

TomTom's advice seemed to me very bizarre, because:

a) it had never insisted on that route before;
b) it has a well-known aversion for left turns (preferring weird turn-right-then-make-a-U-turn maneuvers);
c) I was driving in the right lane when I approached the intersection;
d) the end of the road, where I actually turn left was still 2 miles ahead;
e) the next day, I tried to see if, by staying in the right lane, I could make it choose the same weird route. I couldn't - this time, it gave me the normal route, nothing else.

Go figure...

Two Days - Two Routes

Recently traveled from home to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA. My TT XXL540S had me off the PA Turnpike one exit early, but I followed its instructions. Two lane roads for 20 miles. In hindsite it didn't make sense so I previewed the route the next day and it took me to Allentown as it should have the first time. I've read various possible explainations and I have none to contribute.

What I did learn is to check a paper map or on the computer, and compare what makes sense to the planned route the TT is recommending. I'm a new user and I invested blind faith. Now its only faith.

As a side note, returning home the TT NEVER was able to tell where it was or where we should go. "In 200 yards turn left" except I was on the Turnpike. I shut it off as I then knew the way home. I'm going to make the same trip soon, it'll be interesting to see if it craps out again coming home.

All that aside, I'm crazy about the device.

Did you have a gps signal on the return trip and, if so, any idea how many satellites were getting captured?
