You may want to make a complete Explorer backup (not Home) of your unit's contents, format the unit (not quickformat) and restore the backup.

I have a complete explorer backup of the original condition & after I did the map update. As I said it's not really practical to attempt it while we are traveling around Portugal at the moment. We are relying on the Tomtom & my POI's to find wildcamping places, I can't take the risk something might go wrong, even with the occasional lock up I can get it working & would only try to re-format & restore it if it failed altogether.

Once I am back home I will wipe it all then restore to the last map update, but I was hoping somebody might have had a 'quick fix' solution.
