GO5200 SIM disconnected

Let's do a class action lawsuit against tomtom
Theres a review trail on Trustpilot with this comment:

Raised with Watchdog and UKICC

https://uk.trustpilot.com/reviews/67ac64eb5fe014adabf666f4
His further comment:
I have also raised, and had confirmed, a case with the UKICC - UK International Consumer Centre - which looks into cross-border transactional disputes. I'm not familiar with UKICC but it looks to be a free service.

I am sure he will keep us posted on progress - via Trustpilot

I have also raised this with Watchdog - but seems they only contact you if they decide to progress the complaint. Not heard anything yet - but can't remember the date I made the complaint and they dont send confirmation of receiving the complaint (or atleast I didnt get one).

I have found this in a tomtom produced pdf (TomTom-GO-EU-RG-en-gb.pdf).

About TomTom services
The way your GO connects to TomTom services depends on your navigation device. A GO connects in one of the following ways:
 With a permanent connection directly from your GO. These navigation devices are called 'Always Connected' devices.
 With a connection using your smartphone. These devices are called 'Smartphone Connected' devices.

As far as I am concerned, our devices are the 'Always Connected' variety so tomtom have no right to remove the feature when the infastructure still exists - and it still exists in some countries - especially the UK

I would be curious to know what arrangement he can offer you to replace a deactivated SIM card?
This is what TT offers:
************************************************************************
To support you in this situation, we would like to offer you the following compensation options:

I would like to offer you 1 year of free GO Navigation smartphone application, or if you want to upgrade for a new TomTom device, I would like to offer you a 50% discount or the following offer.
• A one-off financial compensation of 25 euros or
• Alternatively, if you do not proceed with the setup change and do not agree with the financial compensation, we can offer you a chargeback option for your Satnav. This is how it would work:
1. We will need to ask you to provide us with the original proof of purchase of your device to verify the original price. In case you no longer have it, let us know, we can always calculate an average price for you.
2. We will then calculate the current value of your device. For this we will use its age. (The older the value, the lower).
3. Once the value is calculated, we will communicate it to you and if you agree, we will ask you to send us your device, including all accessories and cables (we would provide the shipping label for return).
4. After we receive the device in good condition, we will transfer the agreed amount to your bank account.

I didn't know about this proposal.

I had the same email. When I told them I no longer have the original proof of purchase I got this

"Please also be informed that the purchase invoice is required for calculating the exact value of the device and we cannot just help you with any such calculation."

Hello everyone,
I used to be able to get the live traffic information here in Belgium by connecting my GPS to a wifi hotspot (e.g. my home wifi, or any other hotspot along my way). Now this does not work anymore, so I have no way to get live traffic information anymore it seems. Based on some message I saw on my GPS at some point it looks like the only way to get live traffic information would be to connect my GPS to a smartphone using the TomTom app, but I do not own a smartphone (and I don't want to buy one - I hate these stuff). Am I correct?

Hi
If you want to receive live traffic on your GO, you have no choice but to connect your GO to a phone.

My understanding from TomTom is that my 5100 will continue to receive traffic information via its internal sim but my 5200 will not and must be connected to a phone for this. To be honest I am not convinced about the 5100 continuing to get updates, but I am currently away from home. I will be testing it when I get back.

Which model do you have?

I have a 5200 that is still disconnected. She who must be obeyed has a 5100 and that is still getting traffic via the builtin sim.
It looks like our 5100 does not have bluetooth or wifi so is not an option to tether.
Not sure if later 5100 models were released with tethering capability - but it shows the network still supports the functionality and at a speed that is fine for us.

Our 5100 has been fully updated (including a software update) recently having today got passed the speed camera update issue on another thread on this forum.

The models disconnected should be the 'Always connected' variety as they have the builtin sim - I have raised this with the tomtom 'no'support portal - no response yet but tom tom have no right to remove the service just to save their costs.
