TomTom Model(s)
GO5000
I have a TomTom Go 5000 - i have recently been having issues with the traffic function. It says Traffic "Service Unavailable" even though the device is connected to the internet, has a current subscription and is properly signed in. I have performed a factory reset on settings but not done the hard reset.
The device is a QR serial # - What steps can I take here?
Many thanks

All done - reset, then recovered, but traffic still not working. The Device says it is connected to internet and that traffic subscription is current. However no traffic service

One question, is information sharing enabled on your GPS?

the sim card is located under the label.

yes definitely enabled - I have toggled the radio button and restarted many times. checked for purple GPS on diamond on map. In TomTom services it is connected and traffic is activated. the sim card is fine and connecting.

To check if your GPS connects to the live service at the top is on the right you must have an icon like this.

If the icon has a cross, you are not reading it.

Regarding the repair GO 5000 can no longer be repaired by Tomtom

bit unfair switching off the traffic service but looks like that is the way it is - I now use the tomtom without traffic and have put the app on my phone as well

Not really unfair. Traffic service hasn't been switched off. My TomTom Bridge devices still work over cellular because we still have 3G service (for however long) where I drive.

The cellular providers are one by one shutting down all of the 2G and 3G services that made the connection to these older devices possible. If TomTom put 5G into newer ones, you can bet that some day, those would become obsolete as well.

Thanks for this reply and information -
If its down to 2G and 3G switch off, then I guess there is not much that can be done.....

GO 5000 doesn't have bluetooth so you can't connect it to your smartphone so you can't do anything.

The only thing that is possible to do is ask for a discount from Tomtom for the purchase of a new GPS.

All of the x00 and x000 devices had Bluetooth ability, just not accessed in the way you would find it on a newer TomTom today. It was for those and previous devices that the MyDrive phone apps were created. That app uses Bluetooth PAN profile to communicate with the GO device.

From the manual for this device, I recommend pages 13-17.

I have a doubt?

The manual that you show is for the GO 5000 and GO 5100

The GO 5100 has the bluetooth function the GO 5000 does not have this bluetooth function.

And how did everyone get traffic for their GO 500 and GO 600 (I have a 600) models that do not include cellular connections like the 5000 and 6000? I can assure you, it wasn't RDS-TMC.

GO 500 or GO 600 you receive traffic via your smartphone.

The GO 500 is GO 600 has Bluetooth function.
Yes. When using the MyDrive app to sync the phone to the GO500 or GO600, it's using Bluetooth. The same process can be used on the GO5000 and GO6000. The real difference between these devices is that the 5000 and 6000 also have the cellular option.

The difference on more recent units is that the MyDrive app isn't necessary because it is possible to directly 'tether' the newer units to a phone using the phone's Bluetooth tethering capability (if this is part of the owner's cellular plan). Back when the x00/x000 units were being developed, tethering was at an extra cost (sometimes high), if available to an owner at all, so the MyDrive app took a kind of a 'back door' Bluetooth approach to connecting to the GPS unit that bypassed the whole 'tethering' issue with the phone carrier. Most phones supported the Bluetooth profile that MyDrive was using, so most of the time, it worked.
