Hi all, and thanks for having me on this forum. I usually don't have to visit forums specifically for help, but having bought a Go Essential - coming from my Start 25 - I've started pulling my hair out. I don't ask much of a navigation system, but I used the simple POI list in which I could simply check certain POI's while I was on the road during vacations, a lot. I could just view campings for instance, or museums which popped up near my route, and just decide to stop or drive on.

Now it seems I have to plan everything ahead and decide what to visit beforehand, which to me, is a very different experience, killing the spontaneity of my journey.
What's embedded in the system as a POI, comparable to my Start 25 is 'charging station' which I don't have any need for, and that's it.

Is it still possible to add categories which you can either check or uncheck which show up during your journey as with the Start 25, or is this just gone? By the way, I have tried to add .ov2 files but supposed websites where you can/could dowload these are down and the TomTom website isn't making me any wiser on this matter unfortunately.

Hi,
On a Go Essential, it's no longer possible to add custom POIs like on your Start 25.
The only POIs you can use are those available on your GPS.

Thanks for responding Willy,
I have checked or unchecked solely the POI's which were on the Start 25 by default, such as campings, restaurants and the like. Do you view these as custom POI's as well?
When I fill in 'camping' it shows a tent icon, which suggests it to be a category on the Tomtom/GPS; is it possible that it shows me these while on the road without having to specifically search for them first?

If that isn't the case I hope there's another navigation system that does have this option.

On Go Essential to view TomTom POIs

Select Settings from the main menu, then Appearance. Select Show POI lists on map to choose which POI lists you want to display on the map.

I've done that, but as stated, it only shows 'power stations' for electric cars and that's it. It looks like something is off on mine, I haven't managed to find a way to add any POI's to that list.

So what you suggested should basically be the same as the POI category list on my Go 25. Now it's at least clear to me that I haven't overlooked it, and there should be more in the list.

The Essential is a version of the GO 620, which can handle up to 5 custom POI, delivered through the online Planner, although not any icons to go with them. This was the last generation that could handle custom POI files.

The Essential, Supreme and 520/620 models all shared the ZE serial number prefix.

Yes, I saw my mistake a little late, I confused GO Essential and GO Classic.

After going to the store I decided to link an image, for clarity's sake, comparing my Start 25 with my Go Essential and what I encountered on a Camper Max in the store. The Camper Max had a somewhat different interface but found a POI list in line with my Start 25 by clicking on 'Maps'.

I'm starting to think they've exploited this list as an 'additional service' or have I assumed wrong here?

Have you gone to Settings in the main menu, then Appearance, select Show POI lists on map?

If you can't find any POIs to display on the map, there's a problem with your GPS. If you bought it in a store, request an exchange or contact TomTom.

One thing you can try is resetting the device to factory settings.

Don't compare your GO Essential to a Camper Max, which has pre-installed POIs.

The screenshot showing my Go Essential is literally the 'Show POI list on map'. Yesterday I also managed to check out a Go Classic of which the POI list also only shows the 'Power station'.

Those pre-installed POI's on the Camper Max show exactly what I'm looking for which was available on all previous models with the 'old' interface as shown in the top image of the collagephoto named 'Start 25'. From what I'm gathering from your response is that I was correct in assuming TomTom is exploiting a feature that was previously available for all model Tomtoms but now viewed as an additional "service". Meanwhile I found out that there's loads of confusion regarding these pre-installed POI's; sellers in The Netherlands assume these are installed on all current Tomtom models because, and I quote, "it says so on the box".

Do you happen to know what the cheapest model is that has these pre-installed?

Thanks again sofar for replies sofar btw, I really appreciate your help.

On your GO Essential, you should have the same POIs as on your Start 25, such as restaurants, cafes, garages, etc.

On Camper, there are Camper-specific POIs that you won't find on your GO Essential.
