TomTom Model(s)
GO 6200
Just got a message to say TomTom are withdrawing live traffic because the SIM cannot be updated -- how does that square with a lifetime subscription -- ?? why has htis happened. If tomtotm now offers lifetime traffic -- is that a meaningless statement?

I just got the same message - tried complaining to the robot but a long wait....a previous thread said the 2g network it uses should go on until 2033 - I don't know

Why can't we be given a new sim.....

I also had the same message as shown below, but it also says that you can connect it to your smartphone to carry on using it.
If you don't know how to do it, there is a link on the email they sent out.

Important update about your TomTom sat nav
Your GO 6200 is reaching the end of its built-in SIM support which means soon you will not be able to receive TomTom Traffic via your built-in SIM anymore.

You can continue receiving TomTom Traffic and Services by connecting your GO 6200 to your smartphone via Bluetooth® wireless technology.

You can find instructions on setting up your Bluetooth connection by clicking on the button below.

Tomtom sends messages in bulk, so even those who are not concerned receive the message.
As long as 2G is available in your country, your SIM card will not be deactivated.

Please stop spreading this nonsense here.
TomTom has already switched off the map for me and many others, even though G2 is still active for us until 2030!

This is not nonsense.
If Tomtom had disabled the SIM cards, everyone would have their SIM card disabled.

Umm... "the map"???

Natürlich die SIM-Karte, davon reden wir hier. Das G2-Netzwerk bezieht sich nur auf die SIM!
Interesting. We often see the word "card" used improperly to mean 'map' in this forum ("card" never means "map" in English), but here is what the post looks like on my machine - map, not card. Is there some autotranslation going on with my browser??

Does your page view of that post look like mine does, below? (I pasted in an image):

In German, the word "Karte" is used for many terms. For example, SIM card, phone card, but also map. The translation program that I have to use because I don't speak English always turns Karte into map when the word is used alone.

So, is TT going to show some consideration to customer Boris Neal's original question about the future of Traffic news on GO6200, or show its usual arrogant attitude for its customers, and ignore the legitimate query?

Totally agree!! I think it is ridiculous to deactivate one of the best features of this device! And connecting with your phone is a crummy alternative

It's not done yet, the best is to wait and see how it evolves.

For me, it's not Tomtom who will deactivate the SIM cards, but Vodafone.

Traffic will continue. Boris clearly missed the content of the message. Live Traffic is NOT being withdrawn, but will eventually need to be obtained in a different manner.

That said, I'm guessing that what you'll want TomTom to do at some point in the future when 2G service is gone is to develop a 5G device and send it to you to replace your obsolete 2G device?

Of course, a 5G device will eventually become obsolete some day. So I guess they should send you a 10G device to replace your obsolete 5G device.

Look - these cellular capable devices are going to work until the locals shut down 2G service wherever you are. Until then, there's no reason to think things won't continue as they have been. I've seen no indication from Vodafone that they have some imminent plan to shut down 2G service.

Figures!
Sounds familiar with mine.
Last response from Tom Tom I had was to send them images of the device About window.
That was Friday last week. Nothing as yet.
I’ve questioned them regarding lack of signal and SIM cards and them wanting to retire service via sim systems…
Silence so far!

Sorry to say I feel we are being taken for a ride on this.
I might and hope I’m proved wrong.
I’ll wait!

My TT Go 6250 pro truck with lifetime service also stopped with live traffic and live speedwarning, very annoying. I contacted TomTom for the reason why. It took more then a week before I did get a answer. They were very clear about these services and why these are ended with the internal simcard. Sollution; When you make contact with your TT by wifi or cable to your computer at home all these services are colored if you have payed for these service. When you are out of range from your wifi service is stopped as shown in your screen by turning gray with a cross.
If you paire your mobile phone with your TomTom by Bluetooth/ Thetering the service will apear in your screen again as activated. Problem solved. When you restart your phone most of the time you have to activate B/T again saves a lot of irritation when TT does not show the service activated;) Good luck and drive safe

Hi
Mine is never connected to Wi-Fi unless updating.
I never tether my unit to smartphone as never needed to! Did try but will not hold link as keeps going on and off constantly. So I can’t use smartphone in that way.

It always works for anywhere between 10 and 40 minutes into journey then goes off line. So does work for anywhere between duration but after nothing for the rest of the day!

Bought this from TR direct so they should have informed at that point if they were thinking of switching off sim live systems. That in itself is false advertising and fraudulent sales if not disclosing as such.

Still waiting on TT for their next response.
