Eclipse Owners, Speak Up!

Aren't the Mexico maps and NA maps the same size? It's just ridiculous that the new NA maps are just about the only maps you can't buy. I just wanted to help you vent.

Tomtom deliberately excludes US/Canada from some of its devices. This happens on the original eclipse, and on Navigator 7.

It's a business decision, as there's no technical reason the maps can't be loaded with expanded SD cards, and no technical reason the smaller regional maps can't be loaded on the smaller SD devices.

The business reasons could include:
- Tomtom may think that without map updates, we may decide to purchase a Tomtom PND which may net Tomtom more profit.
- There may be some per-device licensing or type-of-device license restriction, that is preventing US/Canada map release

so theoretically, i could download the USA and Canada map v8.35 for rider (which also uses a SD card) and install on my TT eclipse?

Downloads are locked to a specific device serial number, so that won't work.

If you buy a Tomtom SD card (eg here), they are locked to the SD card's serial number. There's a chance it'll work in the eclipse, don't know.

No, it is not. I believe the NA version has some additional detail not included in the other one.

Ariiiiisse Zombie thread! ;)

Last summer, I bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris which came with the stock no frills stereo. I replaced that with a Eclipse AVN2210p, connected the PND to TTHome, updated the software to 7.833, the maps to United States, 900.4608 (still the current map) which left me with just the annoyance of the complete restart every time I started the car, and the "play iPod at random" preference being unchecked.

Simply replacing the stock SD card with a 2GB card fixed that. And oddly enough, the unit also accepts a 16 GB SDHC card.

Um...
If you are still on 7.833 firmware, although you may find that your unit will read from the 16GB card, it may NOT write correctly to a card that size. Be forewarned.
