As a TomTom GO700 owner, I am ticked that more features aren't made available to older GO models. Even my GO700 is capable of most of these features. It has a big enough hard drive, Bluetooth, microphone, etc.
The proper analogy to Microsoft is that Microsoft provides feature updates through IE, Windows Media Player, and even true Service Packs (like SP2). No, we shouldn't expect TomTom to upgrade the hardware (bigger hard drives, larger screens, etc.), but anything that can be done via software should be provided to the older GO owners whenever hardware limitations do not prevent it. For example, why can't I edit the arrow icon to a different icon (car, etc.)? That's just silly to make that a feature only of the newer GO's.
I can understand that TomTom can't provide all the functionality of the GO720 to an original One user -- the hardware is just too different. But there's really not a tremendous amount of difference between the older GO models and the newer ones. Hard drive and screen size, which may limit some features -- yes. But most of the new features can be easily implemented in the GO700. If my GO700 is still working just fine hardware wise, why should it be a requirement for me to upgrade the hardware just to get the newer software features (which again, will work on my GO700 hardware)?
