I followed your suggested actions, but the unit still hangs on boot, so I guess there's a hardware fault, so it's destined for the bin.

Before you "bin" it, be aware that there are always folks looking for replacement LCDs due to breakage. You might toss out a note in the "Trading Post" (last thread) to see if anyone else in the UK could make use of that bit.

Ever resolved?

Was this issue ever resolved or was the Tomtom discarded? I have had exactly the same issue with mine and searching the net revealed I'm far from the only one. the common theme seems to be the replacement of the battery but its just odd when I can get the unit to run and navigate when connected to a computer. Very frustrating!
