920T Europe questions

I live in Germany and just got my 920T. It's taken a while to get used to and I'm learning my way around the menus. I have some questions for the European users about the speech recognition. I don't know why it would matter where I am, but I throw this out on the table anyway. When I choose "spoken address," the icon is greyed out. How can I get this option to work??? I have asked TT support about this, but have not yet received a response. I've read some of the forums, but the majority are about the 720 and all of them from the states.

Where did you buy the 920T? If in the US, VR wont work in Europe unless you get the cspeech files for the 19 European countries.

There is a megaupload file for it. I posted the URL at gpsreview.net forum. I got it from a poster at www.pocketgpsworld.com.

Do a search for 'megaupload' at the PGPSW site on the TomTom forum.

The reason for this lacking is simple...space!! These files are big.

I have downloaded and installed these voicefiles. However, it does not work. The 920 cannot find the city. Do you think there might be any other file missing or that the maps included of Europe in the US versions doesnot support voice?

Any suggestion of what to try next?

Make sure to place files in the Western Europe folder and to select a computer voice.

Hi,
thanks,
the cs files are in the Western and central Europe directory. I will do some reading on the 720 US VR fix during the day.

I am guessing that you bought it in the US. If so, it doesn't contain the files necessary to recognise the voice commands. You will need to add them.

He has the files, as I showed him where to get them in this very thread!

The lingering problem is how to get them to work.

I think i found a possible solution from an Amazon review.

He needs to delete ALL the North American cspeech files for the NAmer map folder and then install the Eurpean ones in the WCE folder and then make sure to select a computer voice.

Before doing this, please back up all files, so that they can be added again!

Sounds like worth trying. However, I will wait a couple of days to an answer from TT Support.

The Amazon review referred to the answer given by a TT Cust rep.

The only other think I can think of is changing the content of the ASR file???

For the US the content is a '1'. Not sure for Europe. Could a Euro 920 owner verify the content of the asr.txt file?

I don't know if this affects any of the observations:

From the 920 manual:

Your GO recognizes place and street names spoken using the local language
and pronunciation.
It is not possible to using spoken address entry to say place and street names
in all countries.

Also this:

Note: You need to say numbers in the same language that is used for menu
buttons.

Wirelessly posted (GO 720T: NokiaN73-1/3.0638.0.0.1 Series60/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I'm from germany too.. did you bought it in germany?

Do you have the Western Europe 7.10 maps and firmware 7.221?

Yes,
Western and Central Europe 7.10 and firmware 7.221.
I have added cs files. My 920 recives my voice input. It doesnt manage to find the city I read it. It is not a language issue. It works with North America maps in english and french for quebec.

Could it be an accent issue?

It seems that VR is working, but that it is not liking your accent in that foreign language?

Try it for a UK address.

Good point!
My native tounge is Swedish. I get it to work with french in quebec and english in the US.

I installed the UK cs file and tried it. 920 recordes my voice, but cannot find the city. I also installed Swedish cs file and did the same. Still cannot find the city.
