730 FM Transmitter fix

Hey buddy, please let it rest. My decisions on what GPS to get will definately change from this experience, you do not need to remind me why or what I should get.

This thread is about the FM Transmission. Your arguement is being not a big deal. If you dont want it please stay out of the thread. While the others are interested in getting it back.

You are LUCKY you got things to work. I have BACKUP and followed instructions by Tomtom but People here have mentioned that you have to use the explorer in order to do a proper full backup so either way if you have followed the TomTom directions you wouldnt be able to recover to previous. Again if it did for you congrats, it didnt backup for me.

My updated maps went to 815.2057 not 2086 so care to explain? Latest map gurantee did not went to the next upgrade. I have to exchange series of mails to get it.

Again, we stop here. my beef is not with you and it shouldnt be for you either .
Thread is about FM fix. Appreciate if this topic is back on track.

As yet the latest update have not fix.

Hey Nex, Chill out.

I was only answering your incorrect statements directed at my post(s), and trying to help you refund your 730!!!! But from what you say in your PM, you had no intention of returning it anyway
As I stated in my first post to this thread "This post is not aimed at anyone, but just a general reply, so don't take it personally...What's the big deal with having VC through the FM transmitter anyway????...".

Anyway, to answer your last question "My updated maps went to 815.2057 not 2086 so care to explain?"
815.2057 and 815.2086 are exactly the same map. There is no difference in maps. 2057 means it is the map pre installed and built for 730's. I guess after my 730 did the firmware update, it decided to get 2086...
If there is a V825 or such map (first 3 digits change), then yes, it is a completely new version map, which qualify's for the latest map guarantee.

Now, back to the topic. If you want the VC to transmit through the FM Transmitter, leave the device in the "FM Transmitter screen" and it will do so (you just have to put up with the odd drum roll occasionally)!!!

Ok since you are confused why I didnt return the unit, because part of it being I need to travel back all the way where this product is bought. I can assure you that it is a retail product, otherwise I wouldnt have the receipt to proof to TomTom to download the map. I can assure you the trouble is not worth it. Yes I was very convinced to buy the unit.

As for map, it is unusual that your HOME did it (honest and not being sacastic) As I have met a majority of users have no clue about this map and it did not upgrade. But the fact that yours did and others didnt feels weird.

FM transmission fix, dont think it be anytime soon but I can be proven wrong.

Has anyone heard anything new on this?

Alternatively, these TomToms with their Linux kernel seem relatively to hack for computer programmers (which I am not)--does anyone have any idea how we might hack a fix to increase transmit power and restore the ability to transmit cell phone calls & nav instructions?

It has never been possible to transmit phone call audio from the TomTom x20/ x30/ x40 using the FM Tx, there was a way to do it with the x10 if you had the FM Tx dock but even that work around was stopped within weeks of it becoming known.

As for turning up the power - not possible.

You can get the avigation instructions back via FM Tx these days though, what you need to do is set the mp3 player going and only when the mp3 player is working are you allowed to send nav instructions via FM.

To be honest these days I use Bluetooth as it provides a much better solution with no interference/ re-tuning works a treat and no wires, to get the phone audio through the car speakers I use a dedicated handsfree kit that employs Bluetooth and connects to the phone and the TomTom at the same time - Mike

Hmm... I have a 930T that I purchased back in Nov/Dec of '08 and before I ran the updates (e.g. right out of the box) it would transmit over FM all/any of: music, navigation instructions, and phone audio (assuming, of course, my TT was tethered to cell over bluetooth). After I first updated the TT the feature to transmit phone audio or navigation instructions over FM disappeared (subject to the exception you mentioned mikealder).

Not having my phone's audio over the in-car speakers is really a pain though... especially in a state that requires hands free. TT's volume/sound quality is not nearly sufficient for the task IMO. The nav instructions thing is a pain too when I don't want to have to fiddle with the MP3 player just to listen to nav instructions. I was hoping someone had come up with a work around or a hack to restore that functionality.

W/R to FM Tx power, the reason I thought it might be adjustable is that I believe TTs use the Silicon Labs SI4711 transmitter which should be software configureable, including Tx power.

This is the second time I have seen a post from someone with a 930 that has managed to get BT Phone audio from the TomTom via an external connection - the last time was quite some time ago and a software update killed that as well - never seen or experianced this myself but I am wondering now if one of the the early Navcore releases for the 930 enabled this option by mistake - Mike
