I just called TomTom and they now have a workaround to get the FM transmitter working with 8.15 map. They just emailed me the link to 8.010 firmware to downgrade my device. I am in the process of making the change.. hope it works.

____________
I just completed the update and screwed up my TomTom.. when I called back the next agent told me the fix never worked. They wanted me to update the firmware again.. Bunch of ID10T's.

Sorry to tell you... your 8.15 maps will not work with firmware version 8.010

And on top of that... TomTom will not refund you for the 8.15 maps... even though they tell you to downgrade to a firmware that makes the maps useless

Tell them that in addition to 8.010, they need to have sent you the PREVIOUS map set to work with it. Knowing you had 8.15, they should have known better.

SAVE - SAVE - SAVE your 8.15 map folder -- heck, do the full backup of your unit with Windows Explorer -- then load the PREVIOUS map set with 8.010. When they get this mess fixed (at least 8.302 fixes the stutter; we'll see if they get the FM returned to us shortly), you can then put your 8.15 maps back.

I knew how Tomtom support works.. so I did a full backup prior to calling them. After downgrading the firmware my MP3's player stop working and had several other problems. So gone back to the new version.

Maybe propose mass email support complain all at one go to tomtom, get as much users and email about the same bloody topic, Fix the FM.

I wonder will that wake them up.

And I though Apple was bad with my iphone 3G. I think with any luck, next month they fix it. I am having doubts.

fm fix

i just filed a complaint with the attorney general about this problem, it appears that TT is just NOT going to listen to there customers- there just going to continue to ignore us-

I just emailed a real nasty email to them. Probably they will just use the delete button.

asked for president of usa OPERATIONS.

REQUESTED THE ADDRESS FOR THE PRESIDENT OF USA OPERATIONS. AND QUESS WHAT , THEY REFUSE TO GIVE IT. iI THINK EVERYONE SHOULD EMAIL THEM AT ONE TIME FROM THIS FORUM. tHEY FEEL THE PRESIDENT OF USA OPERATIONS MUST BE PROTECTED FROM THE BIG BAD TOM TOM USERS.

i JUST SENT MY NASTY EMAIL HOW ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE

Already send mine, most displeased with the product.

I will not accept their standard answers of Euro laws, and will keep bugging them about US and Australia that we do not follow those laws.

The main problem is our complains only fall on US/Aust support and they give reasons that they cant do anything because they are not the developers while they are in Amsterdam, (probably taking drugs and still in the blur)

The only fix is to use line out to fm transmitter making our unit bogus for all the stupid money we spend on.

With that, I never recommend a TomTom to another user yet. Garmin is my first on GPS list.

Enough rant, is not going to help, probably gets worse with newer updates. The 740 and 940 series may have the FM function totally wiped off. They have some mobile device which my iphone probably does the same thing, I had no clue what they are trying to do, but they have not impressed me since.

This post is not aimed at anyone, but just a general reply, so don't take it personally...
What's the big deal with having VC through the FM transmitter anyway????
I would have thought that the purchase of a 720/730 would not be guided on the VC alone, but of the many other features.
I find the FM Transmitter on my 730 to work fine (even after the new firmware update). The volume of the transmitted song is decreased when VC's are spoken, and I can hear the commands from the device very clearly.
I find the 730 a very capable unit, which does it's job well.
I spent 10hrs in the car yesterday using the 730 constantly, and it performed flawlessly, even in areas I thought it may not have coverage...
Now bare in mind that this is not my first Sat/Nav!!! However it is my first TomTom.
My other unit was a so-called top of the range device from another "Large" manufacturer that was a pig to operate; Not user friendly at all.
It also had a knack of locking out the user, and the only "unlocking" solution was to drive a 400km round trip to get it unlocked, because I had to show ID to have it done. This was not an isolated case either!!!!

Pitts. then don't set an unlock code , especially one that you can't remember;). The issue on the Tomtom's is that they advertise and sell the Go 700's and 900's with the broadcast to FM function for navigation prompts. TomTom has needlessly chosen to remove it in North America and Australia. Removed months ago, so there has been plenty of time to put the feature back. So far they have not. I understand why some users might miss it. Personally I don't use it as maintaining any quality over any signiifican t drive is almost impossible here in Florida. But for those in rural areas I've understood it's worked well for them. . . or at least it used to

For some one who may not drive a VAN, TRUCK you may not know how loud the noise can muffle.
I respected that you are happy with your unit.
So I am letting you know whats the deal.

1. Having paid top dollar for something it was advertised to do so, and it is stated in the manual.
2. Like said when driving trucks, van and if they dont have A/C unit you would have a hard time hearing.
3. I dont see the point blocking the feature when people found loop holes to go round it! eg. Belkin Tunecast II
4. Respect other users who's country does not have such laws and bought the product BASED on the reason that it has such capability and it is now taken away.
5. As even some said they PREFER less wiring and dont need to go through hassle of the line in option or having to BUY another unit to cater this solution.

You have used the FM flawlessly so to speak, please try winding down your windows should your aircon fails and see if you get the same response. :)

Lastly, Garmin does it, why Tomtom special?

Hope this starts showing you why. As a new user I did not know and the function was stolen away. I felt that they should start explaining what the firmware does and whether we should agree to it.

Here lies the problem. An unlock code was never set!!!!
It was a glitch that the unit would do all by itself. Was very frustrating, especially the first time when I had to take it in to get unlocked cos I didnt have directions to get there!!! The drive soon became second nature

I wonder if a well used Transit flatdeck without aircon is included in your explanation:confused:
Yes the vehical is loud, but I can still hear VC.
Could I ask why you have not returned the 730 to the place of purchase if you are this dissatisfied?

Beacused I past the point of no return. I was only allowed 2 weeks after that no return on goods.

I only found these issues on after 2nd week. And your post is not making me feel any better. lol

But yes please try and understand other people's feelings, maybe you are the only few odd ones that didnt mind, but I felt differently.

Was under the impression that
1. Advance lane guidance in popular motorways. (didnt happen for me, or any users in Perth)
2. FM transmission (Fact that I know about it and is taken off, its a rip.)
3. Latest Map Guarantee > Do you have the latest map? If so what version? I know mine wasnt and had to went through a few series of battles in mail to get it. (This was one of the major hiccups with TomTom, I am thinking is just 30 days why so up thight about it? and cause unhappyness to TomTom users.)

Just because you feel that is VC doesnt mean the feature should not be there. I like it through my speakers? oppose to unit? Not everybody has great hearing, am I not saying TomTom internal speakers are bad. I just feel that I shouldnt be deprive of the feature, knowing that is there but cant be used. (If you cant understand this then dont bother, we end up arguing) Is like hey here is your V12 farrari but due to our laws in this country we have to downgrade the system to run the engine to 4 cylinder? Oh dont worry is still a V12 but working at 4 cylinder capacity. (In case you dont get the drift)

Again, it doesnt bothers you because you dont really think much of it, but for anyone who wants to use it, CAN"T.

I dont like to accept things like "nah is no big deal, they disable a small thing" Gives me the impression they can do whatever they want and break promises. Instead of accepting such concepts you should think they have falsely advertised the product.

Again if I known this, I would have settle for a cheaper TomTom and save a cool hundred dollar. Whats the point paying for features not being there?

Again, I feel like an Iphone 3G fan type of thing coming. the arguement of a smartphone without basics of mms, and bluetooth file transfer, and people are ACCEPTING it. Wont even want to go there.

The fact that people here have been saying that TomTom is going to restore this feature but has not FOR MONTHS, I am not too impressed. Other than the FM now, I gotten used to how they work and backups are the way to go for any upgrades. (shouldnt be the case though).

Here in Aus you have the ability to return the goods if they dont do as advertised. This is beyond the standard "No questions asked" return time frame. You only need to prove beyond doubt that it is not doing as advertised.
If the website of the place you bought it states the VC is transmitted through the FM, then you have a better chance of return. You will probably only get store credit on the main item, which means you can get the lower TomTom, but the remaining funds total should be paid out in cash.
If you are so dissatisfied with the 730, have a go at returning it. OR hang on to it and wait for the fix.

Oh, and you should back up ANY system before an upgrade!!! That includes Computers, Digital TV's, HDD recorders etc; Anything that has firmware updating facilities...

By the way, my map version is 815.2086...

Not in my case, and I would certainly have returned it. Only option is to wait for fix.

Excuse me, it is NOT a basic thing to get a brand new product and do a full backup of the product. It isnt that obvious, and you are just comparing a normal customer to an experienced gadget guy? Anyone would have thought I plug and play, "would you like to update as your version is too old...blah blah blah, HA is a joke if you are a brand new customer you say NO. We can have a poll running. Unless you were already aware of the firmware you wouldnt have a clue.

On your map, please dont tell me you could get it from your HOME, you had to ask for it dont you?
On the latest, some of the support has gave the excuse that the map is meant for 930 not 730, so you can see the amount of bs and kind of support.

Sounds to me you bought the unit from somewhere other than a registered retail outlet, or from somewhere that "saw you coming" and you are believing everything they tell you!!!
The Trade Practices Act allows 12months for this type of return; Ask me how I know this...

Considering it's written all over the TomTom website, and in the manual, it seems pretty obvious to me.
The firmware update shows up when you open TomTom Home with the device as an "Update", so you do have a "clue"...

When I bought the 730, it had map 815.2057. I signed up the night I bought it and installed TomTom Home. First thing it did when I when I plugged it in stated I needed Firmware 8.301. I DID A BACKUP FIRST, then updated the firmware. I then did a "Latest Map Guarantee" and it brought up a new version. I downloaded it and when I looked it up on the 730, it showed 815.2086.

With all these problems you are having with the 730 and TomTom support, why would you go to "another" TomTom???

Hey buddy, please let it rest. My decisions on what GPS to get will definately change from this experience, you do not need to remind me why or what I should get.

This thread is about the FM Transmission. Your arguement is being not a big deal. If you dont want it please stay out of the thread. While the others are interested in getting it back.

You are LUCKY you got things to work. I have BACKUP and followed instructions by Tomtom but People here have mentioned that you have to use the explorer in order to do a proper full backup so either way if you have followed the TomTom directions you wouldnt be able to recover to previous. Again if it did for you congrats, it didnt backup for me.

My updated maps went to 815.2057 not 2086 so care to explain? Latest map gurantee did not went to the next upgrade. I have to exchange series of mails to get it.

Again, we stop here. my beef is not with you and it shouldnt be for you either .
Thread is about FM fix. Appreciate if this topic is back on track.

As yet the latest update have not fix.
