720 chaning screens

Well, I still think that's as a result of a little speck of dirt somewhere under the bezel. Try once agtain with the sharp corner of a business card and go slowlly around the circumferance of the screen.

Honestly, in all instances that I can remember where someone has has 'phantom' keypresses, it's either dirt or a screen protector which is drying up.

Likely some grunge has wedged itself in between the front bezel and the touch screen. Take a thin card (even a business card might work) and work it around in between the glass and bezel all the way around to see if you can dislodge whatever it is that's causing the "phantom presses". I've only had to do it once in the years I've owned my 720, and found that a thin feeler gauge from my automotive stock did the job perfectly.

Hi from Brazil. I?m new to the forum and already touched by how useful it can be. I got a 730 in France last year and it was long resting in a drawer. As my son decided to go out in a trip I rescued it after long resting and the dwarf inside it came to haunt me. The business card thing just solved it fine. Nice hunch.

I am waiting for my third Go 630. My last two 630's had the same problem They directed me to the nearest police station. When I called it in last they hinted that there is a problem with the software. Anyone know when it's going to be fixed?

What in heavens does a police station have to do with anything?:confused:

It is not any bug in the application; it is dirt under the bezel.

"They" were his last two 630s. With that menu system, if you keep hitting the upper right corner (or have crud there), you wind up "Walking" to the nearest police station.:p

No doubt in my mind.

dhn and canderson-

I am having the same problem with my GO 630.

And before you both immediately agree on the fact that the problem is grime, dust, or dirt under the bezel, can you explain how this same thing happens when the bezel has been removed?

I have taken all the components out of the unit and while holding the screen (by the corners only), the same event occurs.

I would agree though, it certainly seems like something under the bezel, which was the conculsion I came to before finding this forum. This conclusion is why I removed the bezel, since I could find nothing under the bezel.

The behavior is that of something causing a pressing action in the upper right-hand corner. But with the bezel removed, and the screen exposed with no framing, what would be your next theory?

Thanks!

Apart from something pressing in that corner (including any screen protector), none at all. Once you've relieved any pressure there, if the problem continues, I'm with Andy - most likely something amiss with the touch screen itself.

There are some threads here somewhere that indicate that users have been able to procure touch screens from 3rd party sources.
