4ET03 TOMTOM XL
My XL has developed an issue with the touch screen. when trying to enter an address the key pad appears to be a line out. if i try to back space for example it will enter the letter m. has anyone else had this issue?

It shows up from time to time on various units. Sometimes, a simple reboot of the unit will resolve the problem.

Few of us here know which product "code" matches a particular unit, but I believe that a "4ET03" model corresponds to a serial number starting with "GH", which is an XL IQRoutes2 model, a.k.a. an XL250 (only called that 'down under'). Peeking at your IP address, I see you are in Australia, so I'll pretend for a moment that I "know" (we can hope) that you have an XL250.

A 250 should have a switch for reboot. Take a look at the bottom of your unit, and try to identify a hole there that should have the word "Reset" next to it on the label. If you can spot that, gently push the little button inside with a paperclip for a few seconds. Tell us if that helps the situation.

If you can't spot the hole/button, let us know, and you will have to hold down the power button until the 'drums' start, then release it quickly.

I have the same problem with my 4ET03 XL and simply just resetting by pressing the reset button at the bottom of my gps doesn't work. Are there other ways of fixing it?

There's a topic on another forum I'm active in about re-aligning the touch screen.
It's undocumented stuff and requires a lot of trial and error, but it might solve your problem.
It's here: How To Calibrate The Tomtom Touchscreen (maybe!)

(BTW, no-one except TomTom themselves really understands "4ETO3". To get the real model name of your XL, put the first two characters of your serial number (the one next to the barcode) into the on-line product finder tool here
