can anyone help me or do i have to buy a new tomtom

Hi,
you say:
every time i try to install everything....
Are you really trying to install EVERYTHING (or did you mean "anything")?

What state is the XL in now?
Is it working but you can't update anything?
Was it working and then it stopped?
Was that after an update?
What's the history of the unit?
Have you tried connecting the unit to the PC and looking at it's memory using Windows Explorer? (it will appear on the computer as a new disk drive).
What do you see there?

Any additional info you can give us on the XL's life story, may help us to get an idea of what's going on.

Thanks for the reply
The tomtom was fine but when i came to use it there was nothing working
ie no maps found so i bought a map from tomtom to download and use, i can download it but it will not do a full install and also i cannot get a full install for the xl application either
I have just formatted the tom tom
I think it will work if i can get a full install no problem with the download,
cannot get it to update
it will conect to pc no problem and i get to tomtom home try to update and every thing is fine just cannot install anytning in full,

Hope that helps
Thanks

If you got no maps found when you went to use the unit, why didn't you return it?

Well, did you make the backup prior to the attempt at an application install (and hopefully with Explorer, not Home)?

If so, and you did format (NOT quickformat) and you connected to Home, I presume an app is offered???

If so, where is it hanging during the install process?

No i did not do a back up
I did a format but not a quick one
It does not stop installing in the same position every time

Oh dear...
Why, oh why, do people keep formatting their device without making a backup first?

Luckily you downloaded a new map, so hopefully that's still on your PC, so all is not lost.

See if you can find it in C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\map

If you cannot get the system files from TT Home, we can try a direct download link to the software. but in order to suggest the right version we need to know the exact model you have.

enter the first 2 characters of your serial number in the box and tell us what model it says you have.

Pete - that's isn't a directly 'installable' file. You need to take that and unarchive it (a *.cab is very much like a *.zip) to your device. Be sure that all of the paths remain intact when you unarchive it. WinRAR and WinZip can both be used. Don't use the native capability of a Windows machine as it may not retain the path information, and will unpack all of the files that should be in folders into your root.
