Hi all,
I know this has come up before but having spent over 1 hour on the 0845 line to tomtom talking to a pleasant but bewildered young man I thought I'd join this forum to try and get some real help from people who actually use tomtom.
In a nutshell
Moved europe maps to computer to make room for USA map (bought online)
USA map is fine.
used backup to keep usa map on computer
erased usa map form tomtom
unable to use tomtom home to let me reinstate the europe file so did it manually (including the activation .cab)
surprise surprise... cannot use map - need activation code.

Some one out there must know a fix for this. I will paypal ?10 to the person who can sort this for me. I'm at my wits end. I really don't want to pay to download europe maps (I paid for it once when I bought the unit) - not just the cost but the principle of it.
thanks !!!!

Firstly try a reset of the device, press and hold the power on/ off button until the device re-starts with a drum roll, if the map still isn't behaving go to the TomTom web site and download the "Clear Flash" utility, run this three times then see what the device does - Mike

Thanks Mike
I've already tried all of this. I think I'm missing the activation file in a format the Tomtom can understand. The USA map has a file ending "meta.dct". This is missing from my Europe map folder and doesn't appear when I unzip the Europe map activation zip file. I'll work on this angle for now.
Cheers

Another option is to re name the folder TomTom Home uses to store its downloads then connect the device and request the map again. Home should download a fresh copy of the map along with the activation file - Mike
