As a wishlist feature for the TomTom, I wish for an OBD-II connector!
Most likely as an adapter cable, because the OBD-II plug is so large, or as a connection that would go into the bottom of a professional docking station (another wishlist feature of mine).
Most cars, model year 1996 or newer, already support OBD-II. It's the standard for getting data readouts out of the automotive "black box" computer. In states that have smog checks, it's what smog shops use when they plug your car in.
There's already some OBD-II readout units on the market, rather expensive, that are intended for mounting in such a way that they are visible to the driver, not just the mechanic:
DashDAQ Series II? -? OBD, Navigation/GPS, Performance Meter
ThinkGeek :: ScanGauge II Automotive Computer
Since the TomTom GPS is already a powerful little Linux computer with a nice touchscreen, you already have paid for the hardware. Adding OBD-II functionality would just be a matter of the connector and the software. Seems easy enough.
How about it, TomTom? Features like this could lift you ahead of the competition.
