Hi...I'm a newbie...got my gps for xmas. I have been seeing a lot of references to "mapshare" on this forum. What is it??

Thanks!

It's a function that allows the user to add details to their maps that don't exist or are problematic. You can add street names, correct wrong street names, block streets or rough roads where you cannot drive so the GPS never routes you that way again. You can also add POI's or modify the location of POI's so that they are accurate.

You can indicate to tomtom missing streets so they will possibly show up in later map versions. That's a bit confusing to some people as you cannot actually add missing streets, just point out to tomtom that they are missing.

and the neat things is all these changes you may make can be exchanged with all other tomtom users world wide. All the changes I have made for instance can be downloaded into your GPS simply by logging into the tomtom servers using home.

There is also an option not to share the changes you might make if that is what you prefer or if you are not sure they are actually correct.

Mapshare instructions or tutorial?

Is there a detailed Mapshare tutorial or instructions with pictures?

I ask because I'd really like to use this feature, but I want to make sure I do a good job.

For example, I noticed that when I planned my first route with TomTom, it had me travel southbound on a road, pass by my destination, turn around at the next block, and then come back up to my final destination.

I suppose it did this because it didn't think that I could make a left hand turn across northbound traffic (even though I can).

So, I fiddled around with the mapshare to try and fix this error, but I'm not sure if "(Un)block traffic" is meant for this type of fix or if it is meant for construction types of things.

Also, I found in my area a street that dead-ends into a stream, but the same street continues on-ward after the stream. TomTom thinks you can keep driving on the same street right on through the stream.

Is (Un)block traffic meant for this type of fix? Maybe I could read some instructions somewhere with an example so I can help out the community?

Thanks in advance!

Mapshare shouldn't be used for your first example (unless you made corrections which you do not share) as these are legit streets despite the tomtom routing.

the second example of the stream is what mapshare is about. Note that you can block only a portion of a street so that both ends prior to the stream remain legit roads.
