What are these yellow-highlighted roads in my map display?

Whenever I navigate on a route I'm seeing a bunch of yellow-colored roads. I also see yellow-colored zig-zag shaped icons on some route descriptions. Did I inadvertently change a pref or something? What's going on?

Roads in yellow are major roads vs. secondary roads. I can't help you with the zig zags.
